I empathise as I built my Fine Molds Falcon last year and had a blast with it. I would love to have the opportunity to perhaps do another one as I still consider it my Falcon kit of choice over the MPC and Revell offerings.
One thing that might be cool would be if Fine Molds were to release the kit with a retooled bottom for a three gear Falcon and alter some of the greeblies to match the 5 footer model more closely. Of course, considering how big a gamble it was to do the first Falcon, that might be a bit much to try that in this economic climate, although the bottom would be about the only major item that needs to be tooled up from scratch.
As for Lucasfilm, I think they knew going in that while officially the license agreement was for Japan only, they left plenty of loopholes and knew these would pop up on US shores (like the old wind up R2-D2s did back when SW first came out). They even did an article on Starwars.com talking about how they provided assistance to Fine Molds to help come up with the engine detailing for the Falcon (the stuff not normally seen since the bright blue glow obscures it). These days, the internet and companies like HLJ.com pretty much make license agreements for one country only a mere technicality anyway as those with the bank account and the ability to web surf will find a way around them.
