Fine molds Falcon Death Star hanger WIP

I empathise as I built my Fine Molds Falcon last year and had a blast with it. I would love to have the opportunity to perhaps do another one as I still consider it my Falcon kit of choice over the MPC and Revell offerings.

One thing that might be cool would be if Fine Molds were to release the kit with a retooled bottom for a three gear Falcon and alter some of the greeblies to match the 5 footer model more closely. Of course, considering how big a gamble it was to do the first Falcon, that might be a bit much to try that in this economic climate, although the bottom would be about the only major item that needs to be tooled up from scratch.

As for Lucasfilm, I think they knew going in that while officially the license agreement was for Japan only, they left plenty of loopholes and knew these would pop up on US shores (like the old wind up R2-D2s did back when SW first came out). They even did an article on Starwars.com talking about how they provided assistance to Fine Molds to help come up with the engine detailing for the Falcon (the stuff not normally seen since the bright blue glow obscures it). These days, the internet and companies like HLJ.com pretty much make license agreements for one country only a mere technicality anyway as those with the bank account and the ability to web surf will find a way around them.

Thats a beautiful dio. and probably the BEST way to show off your build. When I built my Falcon (ertl not FM) I put it "hovering" above the crew running for the ramp and away from Darth Vader. :lol
I love what you've done :thumbsup

Re: Fine molds Falcon Death Star hanger WIP )(updated)

Here is a small update on the Hanger Bay diorama. I finally got around to making the Death Star Surface around the Hanger Bay opening. I mostly used the Bases from the Ertl Tie fighters kits. I did add two Ertl Millennium Falcon Turret guns as gun system for the death star.

Enjoy!

Thanks everyone. Spoddy, your comment led me to do more shots like that one. Here is a comparison of the film and my dio. I was really shocked when in photoshop (I layerd them on top of each other so I could get the sizes right. I made the layer with my dio at about 50% transparency so I could adust the size) I found a few things, the fine molds falcon included, lined right up.

Next up! Stop animation! :cool

this is kick ass wish i could do work this cool

You Can! You know the only trick here was plenty of "research". Have a good plan when you start and its easy. I did make and cast some wall sections and "light towers", but nothing more complex than a 2-part mold. I guess I have to add that the access to a sign shop for the floor and a few decals did help out a bit. But even without those tools/skills it could be done. It would just take more time.
