Finally Spotted ILM Built MPC X-wings!

First of all, been ages since I had the chance to post anything here. If this thread is in the wrong forum, please apologize....
Anyhow. Always been a fan of the old MPC X-wing kit, mines been sitting in a box since I got it back in mid 90's. I like the overall size and look and the fact that several were painted and used by ILM makes them even cooler.

As you all know it's been claimed that several of them were used as studio models by ILM in both Empire and Jedi even though not one single frame of footage has actually confirmed this. The screen caps used in the latest auctions have all been of the regular 1/24 models and not of the auctioned MPC's. To be honest I highly doubt the ones built during the ESB era were screen used at all. They seem to lack the needed mounting ports and such to function as a studio models I'm willing to bet they were made as crew gifts and such by the end of production but hey, that's just me thinking out loud. The Jedi ones however certainly looks the part! Lights, mounting ports and cables! Only problem is that even though I've freezes framed every single space battle scene in the flick I've came up with nothing. Jedi's tough though since there's so many fast moving shots with speck sized X-wings. I'm sure they're in there but haven't been able to confirm it. Anybody else been able to screen cap one?

Now for the cool part. Yesterday I was Youtubing my way thru memory lane with some old Disney Parks ride videos and all of the sudden there they are! Star Tours! Yes, every single shot in the old ILM filmed ride footage with X-wings features the MPC models. No 1/24 scale ones at all. Very easy to spot! Matches the boxy shapes, small engines and even has the droid stripe "butt plug" that covers the rear mounting point. So, still no confirmed MPC's in the films but they most certainly were park used!

If this is old news, move along.....

Awesome! Keiko, thanks for posting that, can't believe I've missed it. Just like you said, that undercut gives it away instantly. I wonder if they built versions with closed wings for ROTJ or if those are indeed the ESB ones. They don't seem to have any mounting ports though.

Good question. There are images of one from the Bluray that claim to be from RotJ, but it still feels inconclusive to me, someone could well have mis-filed or mislabeled something over the years. It doesn't match the ones that are in the "coming out of hyperspace" sequence in terms of interruptions to the red stripe on the main fuselage.

Really crappy picture but here's screen grab from one of the archive fly thru vids... Show two MPC's with folded wings. Not really sure about the third one on the right. Doesn't really look like a match for the MPC but way to small for a 1/24 model.
