Fifth Element blaster

I recently received this in the mail, I got a VERY good deal on it from mbmcfarland. It's an HCG with faulty electronics. I have to say that this has immediately become my favorite prop, and I'll like it even more after I get the metal replacement barrel tip. Of course I'll post again once I get that.

I was very surprised by the red LED. I figured they would just put in a low light red LED to look the part, but this thing is actually bright enough to see in a dark room. Makes the gun even cooler.

So I have two questions. First: I believe that it's generally understood that this gun is a product of Zorg Industries, is there any say on an actual model name for the gun, or do we just have to call it the Korben Dallas blaster? And second: Who do I talk to about a soundboard that makes the charging whine when the power button is pressed and can make a number of different gunshot sounds when the trigger is pulled that either cycle or play randomly?

Very nice! :):thumbsup

But since it looks to be working just fine in your pics, I have to ask: What's "faulty" with the electronics? :confused

I think there was a problem with them draining the batteries even when not in use.
They sent out replacement guns to the people that bought them and didn't ask for the faulty ones to be returned, which is nice when you have honest people like mbmcfarland who sold it as a faulty one, i'm sure there's been many a faulty one sold as ok on eBay though.

Yea, the batteries drain while the gun is off, I just put the plastic tab back between the contacts when I'm not using it. If/when I get a soundboard and take the gun apart I'll rewire it to make the button work properly.

Nice... one of my favs as well. Right next to my AP ESB.

The real gun was a South African company by the name of Vector. Model CP1. The gun was recalled world wide for a faulty safety. The company offered more than the buying price, so almost every one was returned. There are only a few, maybe less than 100 still unaccounted for from Vector.

I kick my own ass on this. I had the gun on order. Long before props, I collected guns. I loved the look of the thing. I backed out, bought a Beretta 40 M94 instead. I am one of those gun collectors that would have never known about the recall. I would still have it.

Crap.

But that is the real gun story.

That's great! I was just watching this last night on HBO and thinking how cool looking that gun is.

yah i got one with faulty electronics from a great deal here, however what happened was the trigger button they used is glued just behind the trigger and came loose, i took it all apart and was gonna remount it, but i set it aside cause i was hoping to change the LED for a laser and add a sound card to it... Risu where are you getting your metal barrel from?

A member here who advertised once as offering custom lightsaber lathe services is discussing it with me. I'm torn right now between getting just the barrel, or asking him to make ALL of the lathed pieces on the gun so that I can scratch build a solid aluminum version of the blaster and transfer the electronics to it. I recently found out about the Vektor CP1 by pure coincidence and that story explains why I can't find a single replica or airsoft version of it, save for the way expensive ones currently being sold in the junkyard. I found one site that carries it, but is out of stock and on inquiry they replied to check again in a couple weeks and not to email them with questions anymore, use the phone number instead. Thumbs up for fantastic business sense!

So any word on what the actual model number of the gun is/would have been? Was anything ever said by the prop guys, or in a making of special anywhere?

EDIT: Oh, and clutch, I've seen a really good pic of the hero blaster and aside from the barrel tip, the firing pin, and possibly that little tiny rod at the bottom of the barrel, the whole thing was made our of resin originally. It also had a pretty iffy paint job, but on close inspection the HCG blaster has some fibers stuck under the paint as well. My idea to scratch a solid aluminum (except for the airsoft) version would be an idealized replica, complete with (hopefully) a sound board and the LED being activated not with the power switch, but by holding the red button on the trigger.

IAL - Why would you want a laser pointer? The LED included makes for a great tac flashlight. It's a pistol, not a sniper rifle. Also, the movie version clearly had an LED.

A fantastic replica of the Korben blaster (I have one myself), and Hollywood Collectibles is to be commended for handling the issue of the defective first run as generously as they did. Kudos! :thumbsup

Thanks again mcfarland, as soon as I can find a place that sells acrylic sheet by the square foot I'll be making a stand for it along with all my other props. It's safe to say it's my favorite prop yet.

I should have said the plastic silver trim pieces killed it for me. :)

I dunno, it's just one of those guns I loved until I had one in my hands.

Still a cool gun.

Hmm, so what did they use to build under this blaster? Is it one of the Vektor CP1 airguns? Because I've been looking for some Vektors (airsoft/replica or anything I can get my hands on) and this looks remarkably like the original/airgun (aka real). Just wondering if it is did they make it safe or is it still able to fire? Of course I am new to this, this could all be resin, and a very nice job it would be. :)

Back from the dead. I'm going to start drawing up most of the gun in solidworks in the coming weeks, then I'll be milling out the basic pieces at work and sending off for the intricate lathed parts. I've started an interest thread in the junkyard regarding the lathed pieces. If anybody is interested in metal replacement parts for their Korben blasters, it's finally going to happen.

I bought one off ebay. as non functional and the battery wires were ripped out.
I didn't think this gun could be taken apart. can some one tell me how you do that? and I would be very interested in metal replacement parts......
