FemShep N7 Armor, Valkyrie Rifle, + Omniblade (Mass Effect 3)

Re: FemShep n7 Armor: SYNTHESIS (ME3)

Painted the ab plates:

Used the same glazing technique as I did on other parts of the suit (look up on the first page, I forgot what number).

Working on finding some suitable arrangement for those hip pieces that go under the belt. Right now I have leather, same material as the upper thigh sections. The reference shows this as being metal but that black-circle socket is right above my actual hip bone, so this will flex I move my leg in a jumping-jack motion. I haven't tested this out but I can tell when I wear the thigh sections that this is inevitable.

(...whenever I hear "inevitable," my mind projects it in the Rannoch Reaper's voice, ~1:40). Sometimes I have to say it out loud. Often this earns me weird looks.

Re: FemShep n7 Armor: SYNTHESIS (ME3)

Yes you did mean mean "creeper"! so what if my ME3 shep look just like you (for the record I play as a girl in every game "Raven" with black or red hair) She looked that way from Mass Effect #1 so hmmm. and so what is my background is this

I love Link and Zelda !!!! I would still like to not think of myself as a creeper though . thanks. (non creepy smile for reals) :)

Hah chillax bro you're fine. I work pretty hard to make those photos happen, liking them is cool. That is my favorite shot out of that set too.

Freya, like i said your plan finally worked, I finally started the project Mass effect, if you want to see, this is the link:

Awesome! Your technique is totally different from mine. I love how that's a build you plan to finish soon... goodness mine is taking me all year...

Taking an unofficial break from the suit right now. I'm at that point in my job where I am being evaluated and observed every week which is horribly nerve wracking and as much as I want to stay up late and work on costume stuff to take my mind off things, I can't be super distracted. I'll get to work on the rifle a bit this weekend though!

Re: FemShep n7 Armor: SYNTHESIS (ME3)

Sorry for offtop, I finished modeling of N7 armor HD by using 3d model of Shepard from ME3. My friend also still working with helmet. Soon I'll share the Pepakura files.
If Freya don't mind I can share it here, so all of you can use it.

Re: FemShep n7 Armor: SYNTHESIS (ME3)

I suggest posting it in the designated Pepakura Thread or start a thread of your own. and I suggest that you also provide the Female version of the armor, so that you aren't alienating your audience.

Re: FemShep n7 Armor: SYNTHESIS (ME3)

Shure, I now working on FemShep version, I won't ignore the girls. =)

I don't mind. :popcorn
I'd be curious to see how the pep templates compare to my own.

But she has a good point, since there are a lot of people who might want those files, put a link to your own thread in the post.

People might drop in and think I made my suit with PEP and ask a bunch of questions I don't know how to answer, since this armor was custom made from body casting. Might be easier for those builders to find it in the PEP section.

Re: FemShep n7 Armor: SYNTHESIS (ME3)

Doing many, many fit tests with the leg armor pieces. Somehow the upper hip piece needs to attach at the waist area, and keep the thigh section from doing stupid things like rotating around my leg. They are still kept on with duct tape at the bottom, but maybe eventually attaching them to the underarmor will help.

Also working on smaller things since that's all I have time to sit down and do in the evenings right now.

Re: FemShep n7 Armor: SYNTHESIS (ME3)

What about attaching the armour to the underarmour with velcro strips? Have the loop bit on your undersuit so it doesn't catch on other stuff and the hook bit on the foam pieces. I don't know if it's possible but it's what I hope to do when I eventually do my build.

Re: FemShep n7 Armor: SYNTHESIS (ME3)

This is really the only thread I look for in the costume section, I love the updates ! Great work !

I will permanently attach them to the underarmor, with glue, someday. Going to wait until I have the ass plates done first. :thumbsup But that way I know every time I put the costume on, things are going to be sitting where they should be.

^ Probably uncomfortable.

I think that is what most people with foam do though, pretty straightforward method.

The same as the upper thigh part of the legs, I think the backside will be 9-10oz leather too. It would hold up to being sat on, over and over. I thought about using plastic like the rest of the suit, but styrene ass plates would end up as panty-shrapnel. Like, seriously, no thanks.

Re: FemShep n7 Armor: SYNTHESIS (ME3)

Thank you for introducing the terms "ass plates" and "panty-shrapnel" to the RPF lexicon. :lol

The glove armor looks really good, like you could really bash a reporter in the face. (that won't make sense if you haven't played ME2)

There's definitely reporter-face-bashing in ME3, also. :)

And this armor is looking totally awesome, by the way. (y)thumbsup:thumbsup

Re: FemShep n7 Armor: SYNTHESIS (ME3)

Making slow work of hollowing out LED holes for the rifle. It was 65 degrees yesterday, and now it is snowing with flakes the size of potato chips.

One of my cheap dremel bits exploded with unexpected ferocity. I was wearing my goggles and respirator. When the chunks hit my face I was pretty glad.

Since this urethane resin is easily carved, like a fine French cheese as far as plastics go, I decided to do the rest of the work by hand. Using some files and sandpaper to carve the slush-cast interior out a bit.

Sadly I've built up a serious allergy to the Smooth-on urethane resin. Even in its fully cured state, the dust makes my hands/face itch. I have to change my clothes a billion times when I work with the stuff, and I immediately put them in the washing machine.

Re: FemShep n7 Armor: SYNTHESIS (ME3)

Those cutting disks suck! If you get don't keep the disk completely inside the cut, if you twist it at all, it explodes. They have some bigger reinforced wheels, but the disks are thicker. You might want to get a flexshaft for your Dremel. It lets you have more control. It's like working with a pencil instead of a cucumber.

When I upgrade, I usually stick with what I have until I can go all out.

I want a Foredom rotary kit. Maybe as a graduation present to myself. I've dropped hints to everyone I know, they don't seem to be taking me up on it.
