Fathom Events

Also, if anyone is near a Harkins Theater, they're showing Temple of Doom Tuesday and Wednesday...

It's Rad Day...

And that's about it for Fathom as they still have no other movies up for the rest of this year.

Saw it in 2023. First time I'd been to a theater in about 20 years. Found out that I didn't miss it one bit.

Me neither. It takes something really significant to get us into a theater nowadays. Last year we saw Oppenheimer, and that was it. In '23 we saw Mission Impossible and Napoleon, both of which were expensive disappointments. The last thing I'm going to do is pay confiscatory ticket and concession prices for a digital movie I can stream at home. I don't see anything coming down the pike this year that'll pull me in among the first-run studio films, let alone a Fathom rerun.

And that's not even getting into theater cleanliness and audience behavior, which has been declining for years.

Like I've said before, I make it a policy to only go to sparsely filled/empty screenings. Thanks to reserved seating, I can scout how busy the showings are. Fathom crowds are usually more respectful since it's mostly an older crowd that genuinely appreciates the movie being shown so I don't mind if those are a little busier (but I still won't go if it's packed).

Of course, I agree it's still expensive though I rarely buy concessions though so that's not a big factor for me. Cleanliness doesn't seem to be an issue for the theaters I frequent but then again, I try to avoid their restrooms by addressing that at home before I go. Plus, my local Edwards just renovated so it's all brand-new seats anyway.

My high school buddy and I went to a screening of Time Bandits with Burger King burgers in our jacket pockets. It was less about saving money (concessions were pretty cheap back then) than about seeing if we could get away with it. Ah, youth...

It was crap the first time around.

"...and then of course I've got this terrible pain in all the diodes down my left hand side..."

I still have a gang o friends n family who jump at the opportunity to watch something like this in the theatre

I remember showing kids some good ole Speed Racer, and soonly realized, "oh no! Not very good! Not how I remembered it!"

...but Episode III, poke fun all you like, Hayden is acting his tush off! R2 saves the day...AGAIN!!!

I really *LOVE* the chance to be able to enjoy the classics with popcorn, bladderbuster drink, A BIG SCREEN and rockin' sound system with everyone who wants to join in.

Already have my Episode III tickets, in our fave seats! YES ! Those dents match my butt!!!

If you wanna stay in the car park --parking cars, of course-- I understand, but the rest of us gonna skip outta there, jumping around, fake lightsaber fighting, making laser sounds and memories

The only important question: Were they Bacon Double Cheeseburgers?

Those were the best, back in the 80s.

I wish that were true. I went to another Fathom event, don't even remember what it was, but there was a kid one seat over from me, sitting with his family, who was loud the entire movie. He had zero volume control, kept asking questions loudly, and then sat on his phone with the volume up, laughing at YouTube videos. He was maybe 12-13. If I could have gotten away with popping him in the head, I would have. Lots of people were going "shhhhhh!" and his family was just ignoring him.
