Farnsworth Discussion

I was wondering if anyone has the real qmx one that they could send me some pictures of, because the qmx website does not show alot of pics. I would like some good pics of the back of the faceplate, and the left and center knobs. Thanks.
Also, what is the verdict on the radar attachment. I noticed that the farnsworth that had it had an extra jack up near the side of the screen?

The dish was obviously constructed. The part in the middle of the dish is an inductor and tuning T-handle. There is some rod and a dual banana plug that connects it to the Farnsworth, a capacitor and wire and alligator clips. The "sockets" in the Farnsworth are simply eyelets.

I just found a couple more red dome lenses at work (if I can find where I put them!) and I'll go thru my extra knobs tonight.

I gave away my extra knob recently to someone local. I had to get them from the US originally. Another RPF member kindly sold me some and sent them on. I kept enough to make my two Farnsworths.
 
made some orders, all parts should be in hand shortly, going to work tonight, need to look for touch lights, all I need now is some lenses.

Found a 2 or 4 pack of push lights at walmart in the hardware aisle, the dome is white, could be painted if you want white, black, or grey. I'm still wanting clear myself. Just got home from an overnight shift, need to test fit, but the 4 pack was only $3.96 :) upc code is 87563800702

Ok, I took one apart, it does not fit up snug, but once it gets in position it looks REALLY good, some of the back flare would need to be trimmed up to get it in the dimensions of the plate.

The screen lens I have on my current Farnsworth is ok, but I has a slight sharp curve on the edge rather than the soft curve seen on the original. I'm trying to find another substitute with the correct curve.
Not very easy finding the correc size and edges.
 
I really want to find a concave magnifying glass for mine, I still really want to stuff a screen in it, if I can get it right my slightly undersized screen could look correct if the glass works :)

I have one of those that I plan on using for Claudia's Farnsworth, but it wouldn't have worked in my standard Farnsworth because it's too wide at the rim and my protruding brads get in the way. I went with the slightly more expensive (but slightly heftier, as well) '39 Ford Radio Glass. It was $16, with shipping, and it fit perfectly.

I wonder if you ordered the wrong size? Our fit fine, but I also think I snipped off the brads, and just superglued them on with a 1/8" post that barely extended past the thikness of the plastic faceplates we had made.

It's the right size, but my brads protrude a bit because the holes for them were a little large, so I needed to solder them to keep them from falling through. I'm sure the lens would fit fine with some less-protrudy brads. I like my protrudy ones, though, because they also serve to hold the lens in via wires soldered between them. I'd post a pic but the iPad app isn't working right for that. There's one in my show off thread, though.
 
I am making a mini-Farnsworth out of an Altoids tin. I have gotten a majority of the paint and stuff off but I am not sure how to put the audio in. I want to have it so that when I press a button, the 'ringtone' sounds and the red light goes on. Any ideas?

I don't know just how much room you've got but there is a number a small sound recording/playback modules like the ones in greeting cards and USB ones. Some have an LED as well that flashes during playback.
 
Thanks. How much soldering and stuff will it take to put it together? The tin is about 3 3/4" x 2 1/3" I think one of the harder parts will be making the cover for that.
