Far Cry 3

Re: Farcry 3

The reviews and comments I've seen are generally positive. This seems to be the game that Far Cry 2 should have been. I really didn't like FC2, so I generally stayed away from anything FC3, figuring it would be more of the same.

I've got way too many other games to finish, though. Maybe I'll have time for this one by the time it's cheap on Steam. :)

I'd say that's pretty accurate. They essentially built upon and improved on everything that was awesome in Far Cry 2, and trimmed away A LOT of the "fat".

This is my first Far Cry game so I am impressed. I don't see how the desert in Africa would be a good open world shooter so I can see why FC2 could be bad.

I had a lot of fun with Far Cry 2, but I could see why a lot of people didn't like it. While the African desert sandbox was huge, it could get very repetetive, and bland. Also, Far Cry 2 didn't have a very good quicktravel system, so a lot of time was spent driving back and forth between areas. The tropical setting of Far Cry 3 is much better in my opinion, and much closer to the setting of the original Far Cry game, which is still one of my favorite FPS games. I also really like the animal skinning/plant harvesting mechanic, which was also absent in Far Cry 2, as was the skills system. Tons of improvements.

I actually worked on the thing but haven't seen the final results yet. (Worked almost two years on it before I left.) It was my last game as a developer before getting out of the trenches and stepping into a senior producer role with a publisher. Better hours, more money and also:

MUAHAHAHAHA.

Re: Farcry 3

Here she is in the game, they did actions on video then digitized them or something or other in Brazil if memory serves.

I finally came across this character. She plays Lisa or Liza (can't remember) and she is the main characters GF. I just saved her.

MUAHAHAHAHA.

See? This is why I absolutely love this site. I can bring up a topic and get some amazing inside info. I never thought I would talk to game developers let alone the ones I play!

What kind of work did you do on the game?

The further I get into this, the more I love it. I've started discovering all kinds of neat hidden ruins/caves containing ancient idols, discovered I could flush enemies from out of cover by flanking them with fire, unlocked the skill that lets me chain together silent takedowns, finally started locating the animals I need to upgrade my gear, started unlocking a lot of sweet weapons (while customizing them, which is awesome). This game is just great. I was looking forward to its release, but I honestly wasn't expecting to love it this much.

I had about an hour on it last night, first impressions are awesome. My gripe with far cry 2 was the guns and handling didnt feel right. This feels much better for a start.
characters so far are brilliant and you generally get the feeling the main enemy and his gang are serious people you dont **** with lol
The music is awesome aswell. I did a bit yesterday where I dived in some water and when I looked up, a crocodile swam towards me and pretty much ate me. Scared the sh1t out of me lol.
Any body on the fence should just go for it. Its quality and you can see its a massive game and allot to it.

Same here. I played a little more last night and enjoyed it even more. I just saved Lisa and brought her to Daisy so they can fix the boat that's in the cave under Dr. Earnhardt's house. I like how in between missions you can roam the island and do what you want. There's just so much open world and I have only unlocked 3 out of the 18 radio towers. This map has got to be HUGE!

I still have not collected shark skin for that reason. I will be swimming around and out of nowhere a giant shark comes and latches onto either my arm or leg and for some reason I cannot slice it with my knife so I always take damage. I have avoided getting shark skin but I need to craft something that needs it so I guess it's time to face my "fear". :)

Man I actually sh1t a brick when it came for me. Wasnt expecting it but as I looked up, I see this massive jaw start chewing me.
I generally felt afraid to go back in the water lol

Hahaha. Same here. I play with Turtle Beachs and they amplify every sound (it's amazing), so when it happened, it sounded so real like I was actually in the water.

Well I was looking for a new PS3 game to survive the winter and you folks have convinced me to pick this up

Glad to help. Just take your time with it. Don't rush through it. My buddy beat it in about 5 days because he played it non-stop. Explore the island, do side missions and drive every vehicle lol. :)

Ya winter is long, I need to streeeetch this one out

Your lucky you even have a winter. I live on an island. The coldest it gets is 50 degrees.

The snow is good until the holiday season then it gets depressing lol

True lol. Back on topic, has anyone jumped off that HUGE cliff into that circular pool of water in the area that's northeast of the little village? I want to but I think it might kill me which I don't want happening lol.
