Family Costume: Colonial Marines and an Alien

Ive had this idea bouncing in my head since my kid was old enough to walk. I worked the last 2 weeks to get everyone's gear squared away (mine is always squared away. But the other 3 needed costumes :cool) in time for this local con. The tyke is still not old enough to watch the movie, but last weekend the family finally came along with me into battle!

My wife talked her sister into sporting the alien costume

A very proud pop over here and a very greatful husband! Big thanks to my significant other for taking my obsession and having fun with it herself!

How awesome is that!!! That is so cool! In the second pic where you're kneeling, you actually resemble Hudson! "Game over man, game over..."
Nicely done! And kudos to your wife!!! Is her last name Vasquez? :)

That's a great idea, and yeah.. I'd probably wait a while before showing the youngest one the movie. If Id seen that movie when I was that age I think I wouldve been permanently scared of the dark, lol.

SO TOTALLY COOL!!! ~ You are doing parenting right bigbisont! ~ Fantastic job on all the Marine costumes and the Alien too! I really love your attention to detail ...superb! I also like the reenactment of Vasquez during her final moments in the film. I can also hear your little boy barking out orders in the one pic. Very, very nice job on everything!

Thanks guys. Now I guess lets see how fast the little guy outgrows it! I guess the helmet he can probably use a few more years at least.

Liked the build thread you put together for this, very creative.....let me know if you wanna part with this build lol

Which build are your referring to? Between here and the AL there is a build for everything in these pics! Thanks either way! It was a lot of fun.

Read the thread on how you built the armor for your boy and was very cool, As far as the flower pots go did you use all the same type? Also did you eyeball the design on there or did you have a stencile?

Ah, thanks. Yeah each part pretty much needs to be a different pot. Things like the shoulder bells have a much tighter curve than the shoulder flaps, for example. If your handy with a heat gun you can probably create a lot of wiggle room reshaping parts of the same pot into different shapes, but most of the time you need multiple pots anyways so I say just buy the shape/size you want off the bat.

As for a template, I just eye ball it. I this was like the 4th time I've done it considering the revisions to my own armor so I knew what I was looking for.
