Fallout AEP7 Laser Pistol Build Thread

Since my AER9 Build Thread is wrapping up (located at http://www.therpf.com/f9/fallout-aer9-laser-rifle-build-thread-103657/ ), I took on another, simpler project. Since my rifle is going to be cast, I figured I could re-use some parts from that build in this one - namely, the end-caps. The AEP7 would be a neat companion for my AER9, and since I had a lot of leftover material, I got to work.

First, I took a Nerf Gun, a Clear Series Nite Finder, and cut that up. The grip was closest to that of the AEP7, and it had another feature that I was interested in.

So, I cut the grip off, rotated the trigger sixty degrees, installed it on a wooden board, and this is what I had.

Doing the barrel was the work of another few minutes:

And, since I got the clear version, I was able to direct my cuts properly so that I could salvage the components to make this little beauty:

Getting the array lined up properly took some time, but I ended up with this.

Once the barrel was properly routed and glued on, this is what we end up with so far.

Unlike my AER9 build, this will light up, and the trigger is obviously already assembled and working properly. This build ought to be much simpler than the rifle, because half of it's already done, and because I learned a bunch from my AER9 build. Soon enough, I hope to end up with this:

Thanks for looking.

Very little, to be honest. Just came out of finals, and right now, I'm going to cast my AER9 focusing arrays so that I don't have to scratch them again for this build.

Gotcha and as for the focus array. I agree that casting would be the way to go. All my measurements say that its the same piece on all the standard weapons. Whether it is the pistol or laser.

Yeah, but the rod is farther down on the pistol. So the focusing arrays are the same, but I'll have to re-scratch the support rod assembly.

You ought to try an AER9. Your foam models look pretty darn good, if you ask me.

Thanks. They aren't exact but look close for let say a Halloween costum. I was thinking about trying my hand at a rifle. Was going to do the AER14 prototype since I haven't seen one yet but Ratchet just started one. Was looking at the tri Beam. Will see. Probably will not start anything until after kids are out of school.

Right. I have an AER9, I don't know if you've seen it, but I'm like 98% done. Just decals to go now.

Once I get it cast, an AER14 would not be a problem - I'd just have to extend the focusing array out front.

Nice. I'm finishing up my AER10 and was also planning on going for an AEP7. I think I'll just do the handle and light like you did, rather than try to layer thin sheets of plywood then dremmel for proper size. I just want a weekend-ish project this time, not something that'll take me a month or two.

@JM419
If I may ask, I am very curious to know the state of this project. I personally am quite interested in the AEP7 (was one of my favorites weapons), and I like your work.

Well, I have the molds now, so I might cast up those boxes. Those shouldn't be too hard... I'll have to see how that works.

This can be put back on the table, but I do have a commission on the bench right now which should be getting off my bench on Friday. I can get back to work on this on the weekend.
