Fallout 4

And remember in the original couple Fallout games when you could stumble across a working car out in the wasteland and drive to where you were headed instead of walking? No one's been able to cannibalize/cobble something using an atomic engine, some of those tires that are lying around, and all the other intact junk?

Here's my big thing regarding the BoS in this game. The BoS are essentially the descendants of the military, skewed toward cultiness/religiosity. So. Presuming you play the male character, you pop out of the freezer after a couple centuries, an actual 21st-century soldier, who was trained by the government, who served, who wore the power armor, etc. Imagine if Peter the Apostle showed up in Rome and said "heya, know this whole religion thing you guys have going? I was there before it got started and helped found it". You'd be, like, a living saint to them or something. Why is there no narrative option to take over at least the local group of Brotherhood? Maybe reinforce Lyons' teachings, maybe add a healthy dose of Minutemen philosophy -- "we're here to protect the common people, to fight the fights they can't, to put our mortal bodies between our loved ones and war's desolation, because war... war never changes..."

One of the most well developed characters though? :lol:lol:lol

Truthfully that kind of companion description is reserved for the ones in Fallout: New Vegas. Each and every one of them comes with their own companion quest and contain multiple endings. Now that I think about it, I wonder how Veronica would view Elder Maxson's approach to killing everything Synth related

In the very wise words of Palmer...

"You gotta be &@!%$ kidding..."

There was another outcome if you joined the Brotherhood of Steel that was cut from the game. Brief description:

"Paladin Danse challenges Maxson's authority, gives a speech regarding his unwavering commitment to the Brotherhood despite being a Synth and is willing to fight his own kind to end the Institute threat. When all is said and done, the Brotherhood have a new Elder. It's unclear as to who, but Paladin Danse's dialogue suggests it could be either the player or some other BoS member."

Are you kidding me? The number one complaint about the Brotherhood's involvement had a means for the player to address it... and it was cut from the game! To make matters more complicated, the content IS STILL IN THE GAME'S FILES! I cannot see this as being "We ended up not liking it" because it's sooo much better. No, they're more than likely going to re-incorporate it as DLC. But unlike the "Broken Steel" DLC where it fixed something that was really broken, Bethesda had this whole ending planned and recorded the entire time! If this content will be on future DLC, Bethesda pretty much released a product with 'on-disc' DLC. The files are already there, but we have to pay to unlock it.

It also opens up other possibilities as well. If the Brotherhood can have an alternate outcome, does that mean the other three factions will have more outcomes as well? I find it hard to believe that with Maxson gone that Paladin Danse would still want to go out and murder the Railroad.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's a DLC, everyone is following Capcom's pay for the real ending crap they pulled with a few games. DLC is going to kill the game industry at some point. Bit of a spoiler but I stumbled across a mission that actually has another group that is anti synth but after you finish it you're no more informed about them than when you start and it has some Bladerunner style references to it.

Wes, are you just now coming across the detective story? Or is that a different mission you're referring to?

I haven't reach a point where I need to choose a side yet, I've been kinda avoiding most of those missions. I've been kept busy with all the side missions, settlements and companions (Hancock was interesting), collecting armour (though I haven't done the fancy displays that some have done), bobblehead and magazines. I really like the Atom Cats paint job for the armour, but apparently it can't be applied to the X-01 suit.

Personally, I'm really enjoying the game, though I do agree the BOS are very heavy handed (I paid the settlers for the resources)

Does anyone else follow BOS knights into battles just to loot the armour? ;)

Oh god that pisses me off that they cut that out. Bethesda screwed up the ending with F3 and now F4 it seems. First the stupid assed writing that didn't allow you to send a RADIATION IMMUNE person into the water purifier in the Capital Wasteland at the end of 3 to clean the area, and now they took out the writing THEY HAD IN PLACE to make the BoS less ********.

So disappointed. I hope this is getting back to Bethesda.

No this mission starts with a missing caravan. Yeah i pick up stuff from the BOS all the time, they have to be running out of Vertibirds. I bet Bethesda's going to be getting an earfull now that this is hitting the news.

I thought of something a day or two ago: instead of nuclear winter we got nuclear summer? Where is the ice and snow?

Sent from my Motorola StarTAC

Fallout's basis on 1950s scifi movie physics seems to have made it impossible for nuclear winter, actually even in the real world some folks thought nuclear winter would last maybe 50 years at most. If it did happen in this universe they haven't mentioned it yet.

I was thinking the same thing when the Christmas trees popped up. I thought "Well unless I'm wrong, it snows a lot in MA...". Skyrim had snow so I don't know why they couldn't have that in Fallout.

They make up for it with the constant rain that i'm always trudging around in, it's no wonder every power armor suit is rusty.

So the PS4 got the first update today, and what do you know, they broke it.

Now I wander a silent world where I can't click on anything or anyone, and where I only hear the sounds of the world and people around me when I enter the pipboy.

Its like they reversed the sounds, you hear them when you shouldn't, and dont hear them when you should.

I havent checked to see if the vertibirds are flying backwards now, but I wouldnt be surprised.

Wish I could say i'm surprised. Only thing that makes your company look worse than a broken game at release is the ability to mess up a patch. I managed to catch it before it installed and i shut off auto download of updates. Apparently this thing wants to try and install it even when i say not to so i have to quickly go and veto it. Nice setup when you turn all the stuff off and it still does it. Also why is it our armor's jetpacks don't get painted? I have a fancy flame covered suit and a god awful silver jetpack.

I got the patch on the PS4 yesterday and haven't noticed anything different. Played for 3 hours with no issues

I might just install it as i'm tired of fighting with this thing to stop the downloads. I just realized even with repetitive parts of some of the missions I still feel like I've done more in 50 hours of plan than 6 months of Destiny.

Other than having already explored a location before a given quest, the only repeat parts for me are things like the Minutemen tasks and some of the BoS Scribe escorts. I've reached the point with the Minutemen tasks that require clearing an area to just race to the one target character and taking them out.

And I feel your pain with Destiny. Between repeating 6 different strikes for the possibility of getting a random drop and spending 6 hours at a time doing a 20 min raid because you HAD to work with others and again, for that random drop. I enjoyed the original basic story and game play, but when I got to the grind...

Well given the past history of updates causing nasty things to happen it's better safe than sorry to warn folks. I remember there was an issue with an update bricking consoles and handhelds at one point.

If anyone is interested in more Fallout stuff, I recommend ShoddyCast's "The Storyteller" fan series. It follows the journey of a member of the Brotherhood of Steel Paladin tells stories of Fallout's past and present to characters he meets on the road. It uses the Fallout 3 engine from both Fallout 3 and New Vegas to tell it's story and even goes the extra mile in giving the Storyteller his own unique looking set of armor. It's clever, funny, very lore friendly and even comes with a few genuine surprises. Shoddycast released an official mod of the Storyteller for New Vegas with future plans for Fallout 4.
