anyone thinking of doing any props from the game? tons of interesting weapons, and steampunk designs.

the pipboy that is being released is a clock which comes as part of the 'survival edition' which can only be bought through amazon.com. I tried to preorder it, but they won't ship to Europe. So i'll probably ask a friend in the US to order it for me.

Really looking forward to the game, am a huge fan of the first 2.

The pipboy could be made into a pepakura when the game is released, as would any gun, armor, item in the game.

and if you reserved the special edition from game stop it comes with a lunch box you can make it in to a bottlecap mine with a little black duckt tape and a little box on the side that looks like the security module and if any body has pictures of the security module i would be most grateful to have a pic :love

actually it would be a sensor module, the schematic in game requires the lunchbox, bottle caps, a conductor and the sensor module.

no man i have the lunch box special edition lunch box that came with the game i thought it would be a really cool display next to my master chef helmet but i just need a hi-def angles of the sensor mod.

Okay, I got the limited edition special yesterday. Shipped with the Pipboy 3000 and a lunchbox containing the game, a "Making of" DVD and art book, and a bobblehead. The manual is one of those floppy books in the DVD case, not the spiral-bound one that came with Fallout 2.

The Pipboy is okay. I'm somewhat underwhelmed. I mean, it's freaking cool to have a Pipboy sitting on the side table telling time, don't get me wrong. But it disappoints in some key areas. The entire thing is made of two pieces of plastic that hinge on top; technically you could wear this thing, but the latch is not made for really holding the thing on your arm. If you wore it to the convention, it would pop off the first time it hit anything, and since it's so big it'll be hitting things a lot. I think a better one could be made with some flexible bits, as it's freaking huge.

Second, though the dials and buttons you see on it actually turn/depress, most of them don't actually do anything. This thing only tells time, and doesn't even have, say, DST settings or anything.

Lastly, and most importantly to the folks of this board, the Pipboy they made was apparently based on one of the preproduction concept artworks. It doesn't really look exactly like the one in the game, which has a glove with a dial on the back, a shade for the mini-CRT, etc. For the money, it seems like a small thing to have made it look more like the one in the game.

I'll take some photos this afternoon when I get home and post them.

Post lots of pictures from all angles :thumbsup (need some reference for when i build it.
Take a picture of it on your arm aswell, I cant belive it's big, Seems so small on the photos i have seen.

I've actually been thinking of doing a Pipboy 3000 myself. Since I'm not all that electronically inclined, I'll probably be making it to house my iPod touch. I took some screen shots of the Pipboy and Photoshopped them down to just the screens, then exported them to my iPod, so when I view them as pictures, they at least look like the actual screen (and you can flip between different ones). Will try to post pictures.

Thanks for the picture, It suck that its not weathered or have a proper locking mechanism, but it could be fixed with a few rare earth magnets, and a paint job.
The pictures will help me make mine when i get the time.

I'll say this about the job they did.

Looking at this photo, the thumb wheel next to the "mini-CRT" actually turns, the knob at the lower left rotates (though it doesn't "click"), and the dial spins (it might be a compass, haven't checked). The lit buttons under the "mini-CRT" are actual buttons (labeled "STATS - ITEMS - DATA") that are used to set the clock. It could have been much crappier.

It's just I was hoping for much more! Dammit, I want someone to make an iPaq into a Pipboy!

From the size, and with a little bit of work, you could probably rip out the clock and add-in a computer (like maybe use an Eee PC or some other "netbook" or PDA). THAT would be pretty sweet. I did the same thing with my replica of Captain Jack's Vortex Manipulator (built it pretty accurate, though a tad bigger, and instead of a replica of his computer, I put in my old iPhone).

Functionality props rule! :cool

I wonder if you could either cobble up a custom Windows theme, or perhaps make a Linux desktop, that would emulate the look and feel of the monochrome Pip-Boy interface.

I been reading alot on fallout forums that their pipboys have stopped working after a few days. How are your holding up?

I had the same problem contec, I thought the batteries they sent were just crap so I bought some more. They didn't help but I found while jiggling the battery around inside the case on the springs that the clock flashed for a second, then came back on.

Kinda shoddy work it seems. :unsure

Mine seems to still be working. Of course, aside from what you see in the photos, I haven't really worn it or anything; it's just been sitting in its stand. Even if you took out the works and replaced them, it's too kitchy -- a better bet would be to make one you're actually supposed to wear.

Time for some research!
