Falling Skies : Spielberg's New TV Series

I figure a few more episodes to decide, sometimes the premier isn't as good as the rest of it as they're getting into the groove of things.

You guys are SO spoiled.

Dismiss the show after one episode.

You have no idea how good TV viewers have it these days.

Give it a flippin' chance you negative nannies.

:lol I was waiting for you to say this! :lol

The Majority of T.V. today blows and you know it! :p

You guys missed the premise. It's not about an alien invasion occurring. It has occurred. It's a post apocalyptic show about the survivors trying to adapt and survive against the new environment, including the aliens. It's like "The Walking Dead", but instead of zombies it's aliens. That's the premise, not an ID4 invasion.

I am willing to give it a few more weeks.

We have to remember it was the pilot, not a normative show per se. I hope they do show the invasion in a flash back.

They said the aliens have been there, what 6-8 months already? So going back for an invasion is not a hard gap to cover.

Im curious how the outlaw plays into the mix now that his group has been obliterated, will he somehow sell out someone to the aliens?

Kids in the mechs looks like a very interesting idea.

Someone on the show mentioned that the aliens have six legs and thought it was odd they would build bipedal robots. I figure it was foreshadowing. That sparked my interest a little. I am thinking there is more to the story of these aliens. I'll watch.

Didn't bother me that they didn't show the invasion. How many freaking times do we have to see CG buildings, cities, and landmarks destroyed anyway?

I thought the show had an Earth 2 mixed with War of the Worlds vibe. I will give it a chance.

On the Yawnage scale (1 to 10), it rated a 7. About an hour into it, I looked over and my wife was asleep.. So I guess it hit a 10 on her yawnage scale.

I'll give it a couple more shows until I pull the plug.

I got the Earth 2 vibe from the new show on BBCA :)

The 'upcoming scenes' bits showed they do, in fact, show flashbacks because they have a clear clip of Wyle's character teaching his college class before it all happened.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who wasn't impressed. I'll keep watching it to see if it gets better though. I was also disappointed they didn't show the invasion, but like someone said it wasn't he point to show it.

The other thing that bugged me was the gang that captured them. Invasion or post apocalyptic shows always do that crap. They did it on Jericho. They have a tiny little gang of ten people or less, yet they let those guys act like they are running the show. They said in this show that they had 100 fighters and right before the gang shows up he had deployed his men to defend their position. I was going to not watch another if they did something stupid like give into those guys. "ooh don't shoot because they aliens will get ya!" So what I'm going to take all of you out first before they get here.

I don't want to give anything a chance these days because it will get canceled if it's good. Networks today suck, even if the shows are good.

What's the point in having amazing quality shows if they can't last a whole 20 episodes?

I watched it and enjoyed it. Remember, a pilot is supposed to introduce the characters and setup the premise of the show. Mission accomplished. We know who our heroes are, we know who the villains are (mostly), we know the parameters in which they'll have to work, and we know what they want to accomplish within the season(food and weapons, free Ben (the harnessed son), and take down the alien tower.

This isn't a movie with a 100m budget. It's a TV show. If they tried to show the invasion on a shoe-string budget, everyone would be carping about the bad CGI.

Unless the show takes a dive over the next few weeks, I'll be tuning in faithfully.

Wasn't impressed. A 2 hour premier should have some hooks to entice the viewer to come back. I'm gonna catch the House rerun on a local channel next week.

I am 100% happy they didn't show the alien invasion. I've seen THAT a billion times. This show was a bit bland but I'll give it another few tries.

I'm glad the psycho hostage taker wasn't actually very psycho. Only a bit.

The voice over in the beginning reminded me of one of the Terminators ( I think the Sarah Connors show) or Green Lantern....."here's what happen in the past VO, now here's what's currently going on"
I heard in the Spill.com review that the first episode was sitting on the shelf for a while be for the series got picked up and they filmed the second. Any truth to this?

I'll give it a chance and watch when it airs....until it goes up against Breaking Bad.

Exactly this was a pretty bland Pilot I don't see how it sold except for the Berg's involvement with it. :unsure

I wasn't impressed. The bumpers that TNT plays seem so over the top as if they are hoping and praying you will come back after the commercial break to continue watching. I mean alot of the bumper scenes are backed by terms "Action Packed" or "This summers greatest show" but when you see those scenes in the show..........BORING!"

It has a good story but the scenes just come at you "BAM BAM BAM commercial BAM BAM commerical" without any flow!

I feel the viewing numbers will slowly taper off at about episode 5 and cancelled before it can even get to episode 7.

So really how involved is Spielberg with production or storyline? Taken was very good but this show is no comparison in quality to Taken. It doesn't seem like a series to me but more of a 4 part movie.

Yes. They extensively redesigned the skitters and the mechs for the series, so there was some new footage shot of the updated practical skitter costume, and all the VFX were redone. As far as I know, that was the only reason and there weren't any creative issues or anything.
