Fake Russian RPG

We just got done making this prop for a short film we're helping out with.

Getting a Russian RPG was problematic enough. Getting one that is light enough for an 8 year-old to hold up for filming is nigh impossible. :wacko

So we scratch-built this one in two days. It's nowhere near accurate on the details, especially the scope, but it will certainly hold up to the shots we have been shown in the storyboards. :cool

Its mostly cardboard tubes covered in styrene and wood veneer. The connectors holding it together were cut on the lathe out of resin or RENSHAPE, depending on what we had lying around. The rest was built of SINTRA board and scrap plastic shapes out of the junk bin. :love

In fact, the nose cones on the grenades are cut-down mini traffic cones!

Its all about the paint job. LOL!! :lol

That is awesome - especially considering what it is made from. :thumbsup
Always wanted one myself, if nothing else I just want to hold it over my head while I yell "wolverines":rolleyes

WHOAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's cardboard, wood and styrene? The ATF would sooo arrest your ass!

SUPERB WORK! That is just amazing in so many ways. :thumbsup

VERY cool!

I would have not thought cardboard or traffic cones from those pics. You did a hell of a job!

Chris

Aw man you beat me to it!

Great RPG. After seeing TDk made me want to get my hands on one but they're too expensive. traffic cones real good idea. Any in progress photos? I love seeing those kind.

We had to slap this together so quickly that there wasn't time to do any progress shots. My apologies!! I can take a picture of the mess on the workbench if you like! LOL!!

Well, if we'd seen you walkin around with that in Iraq we would have shot you so take that as a compliment :)

Thank you, Onigiri. I'll pass that on to the crew. They'll appreciate it.

As we were taking it to the production office, we ran into a Somali guy in the elevator who asked us if it was real. We even had it broken down and in a cardboard box and he recognized it. He said that he had seen them being handled by kids in his home country... which not surprisingly is the point of the movie we're involved in. Its supposed to raise awareness of kids living in these war-torn countries. We often just think about war as being between soldiers and governments and we don't spend a lot of time considering the other lives it affects.

For some kids in the third world, playing with fire arms, and RPG's is a lot like a vocational school or on the job training.

Nifty build G, Very cool.
