Evil Dead VS. "The" Evil Dead

Okay... here is a question I have.

A few minutes ago, I flipped on the Chiller station and the film: The Evil Dead is on, starring Bruce Campbell.

I know of the Evil dead films, but was not aware of this film.

Is this connected at all to the Army of Darkness/Evil Dead films?

In this film, they are talking about a book wrapped in human skin that brings the dead back to life.

So is this the first in a line of films, or just a similar named film that he happened to star in back in 1981?

I am so confused.... lol.

Okay, I believe this is related.

I was never a big fan of these films, so I am confused on which film was first.

Can someone give me the names and in which order they were released?

I might have to go back and watch them in order.

Thanks

Okay looked it up on Wikipedia.

I will have to sit down and watch them all, and maybe I will find I actually do like them.

I think of Evil Dead 2 as a remake at the beginning and then the rest of the film as a sequel.

I agree. Somewhere they spoke of it as a sequel, but after everything that happened in #1, why would you go back to the same cabin in the haunted woods, or at very least some cabin in not-so-haunted woods that looks exactly the same? AND the exact same stuff happens to you?!? It could help explain his insanity in #2, but I attributed that more to the evil taking/trying to take over.

Is there any talk yet about Evil Dead 4? I remember them saying something about it after the last Spiderman movie.

I think of Evil Dead II as a remake with less tree rape and more continued story.

I'm getting vague memories from the commentary and/or The Evil Dead Companion that there was a problem involving film rights and use of scenes from the first film that resulted in them re-filming what was, essentially, an abridged recap of the first film. Hence it's a sequel with an extended 'Previously On The Evil Dead' segment at the beginning focusing purely on Ash & Linda, as they were the most important carry-over characters to the sequel.

Wasn't that more like Army of Darkness? I seem to recall the beginning of that movie being a VERY fast "last time on..."

I don't know that there was a problem with film rights from ED2 to AOD there was just a shift in story. At the end of ED2 Ash was being hailed as "He who will deliver us from the Deadites" while in AOD at the start Ash is captured and being led to his death.

If you watch them back to back, yes the story line is a bit scewed. I don't think they intended to have an Army of Darkness when they filmed #2. Or at least they didn't know the whole plot. Remember too, Evil Dead 2 was essentially an independent film. And also remember that it was very common for a movie to NOT have a sequel back then. Only recently they make movies with vague endings so they can support the next films.

The film rights thing was at the begining of Army of Darkness - they needed to reshoot the "previously, on Evil Dead..." stuff.

watch Evil Dead.....

it ends with the evil breaking through the cabin...ash turning around and screaming...

in evil dead 2 a similar scene happens towards the begining of the film....after all the recap scenes.

ie: when ash flies through the forrest and turns into a deadite...

start watching evil dead 2 from here

.....at the end he gets sucked into the vortex.

start watching army of darkness when he comes out of the vortex..

= one movie....

anyone else find it funny that a member whos name is moviefreak had to ask if Evil Dead was connected to Evil DeadII and Army of Darkness??

Woooooooah, hold on their cowboy. Take it back a step. That's an opinion, and probably not a common one in a thread ABOUT Evil Dead.

I for one love how campy ED2 is, and I'm not even a fan of camp.

.... = one movie....
So we are to believe that a guy and all his friends go to a remote cabin in the woods, they discover this ancient Book of the Dead, the forest comes alive, his girlfriend and the others are all killed by this evil.... then to travel BACK to this same remote cabin in the woods with a new group of friends (why wouldn't he warn them?), a new girlfriend (doesn't the new one know what happened to his ex?), to discover the SAME Book of the Dead (it has to be the same, right - just how many of these books are there?!?), evil comes out again (and not once do we hear a simple "gee this all sounds very familiar").... Really??

I love all the movies, but I just can't swallow the "one big story" idea.

.... Have you ever heard of sarcasm? :lol And it is an acceptable opinion in a thread that I STARTED :lol

I liked the second one as well... just never got into the rest, so I had to ask the people here, the best knowledge on the net, about the others.

No, what's that? :rolleyes

The one story, as he said earlier, is if you start from the end of the first one and then jump ahead to when Ash is flying around in the second one. The stuff before that is a simplified recap.
