Holy cow! It's been forever since I've posted/done a thread on here! But I can say it's been for the good cause of being super busy with costume making for myself and others!!
So I'm Once Upon A Time obsessed. It's cheesy and dramatic and visually ridiculous and amazing usually at the same time. I LOVE it! We did a Rumple and Belle costume last year and this year I wanted to do some different versions of their outfits as well as add in a third!
For those that don't know Once Upon A Time or OUAT as it gets abbreviated it's a TV show about fairy tale characters but with all these crazy twists that tie them all in together. The show splits between them being in modern day (brought there by a curse to take away everyones happy ending by Evil Queen Regina) and flashbacks of their lives in fairytale land.
The Rumpelstiltskin character and Belle story is actually that they are Beauty and the Beast. Rumpelstiltskin is also the "crocodile" in the Peter Pan story. Regina used to be his magical protege which is why I chose her as our Daughters costume hehehehe.
Basically Queen Regina is all about bling and doing that for a 2 year olds costume proved to be tricky in some ways. First, it's hard to get a 2 year old to even stay still never mind leave things like brooches and capes with feathers alone on her body. But she was a super trooper and wore it brilliantly. She was also a total showoff. Our Daughter is very strong willed and very clever wwith a constant seerrioiousness about her when around others. Like she's judging everyone. And while she's not evil by any means she is definitely naughty (just like Regina later on which is when this dress is seen).
The details of the costume:
I had to order the silk brocade from USsilks.com in India as they have a wonderful collection and were the only site I could find with a dark metallic blue and black brocade that was floral-esque. I found the actual screen used fabric but at $150 a yard and imported from Italy that was a bit of a stretch for me for a kids costume hahaha!. But the silk brocade I used was perfect at $25 a yard and I needed 2 yards for her jacket with skirt.
The trim I scoured all over the fashion district for! That was a glorious find! It's a bit more purple then what I really wanted but good enough for me after hunting for something for hours. And it was about $7 a yard and I needed 4 yards I believe. I also had to get the rhinestone trim separate and a neck piece to attach the trim to for the collar. 2 brooches, some black feathers for the collar and that cool crinkly/wavy fabric for the cape and all in all I'd say I spent about $100 on her costume! (wish our costumes could be so cheap hahaha!)
So now onto the photos!
I thought I had more WIP photos while I was putting this together but this is the first one coming across. This was her first fitting in her jacket:

Laying out the collar:

Coming together as a full costume:

A comparison of my in progress next to the costume I'm replicating:

And finished!

The Naughtiest face of them all:

I'll probably add a few more photos later as well as a comparison photo of her and the costume I replicated side by side. I also need to add my proof photo which I will in a little bit. I just wanna get this thread going!! YAYAYAY!
Proof pic added below and here's my compare pic!
