Hi all

With the new Yoda sculpt coming along, I found myself motivated enough to start my very own little green friend. It started its live as a CKING head, that came with custome hands, feet and a body (not shown here).

I was a bit worried since I never painted a 1:1 bust, but I´m pretty happy the way he looks now.
Maybe I´ll dirty him up a bit more..we´ll see.
Glass eyes are just taped in place.

Still have to find/ attach the hair, sew his clothes and get a belt and necklace for him.
Any idea how to make articulated arms?

Contrsuctive critism welcome

Thanks :)

Marcus:

Actually it is a mixture of different painting techniques.
First all parts were primed then covered in a darker green to check the overall look. Then I used a TAMIYA light green, applied with airbrush to give the whole head, hands and feet the correct base color.
Then I added a few shades of darker green to specific areas.

The "finishing" touches were added by smearing pastel chalk powder (different greens, brown and black) onto the parts :lol

Yoda should spend some time in the shower instead of wandering through the swamp ;)

I´m trying to have the body structure done until tomorrow.

Ran into a problem...how tall should Yoda be?

I made him 65cm tall and he seems too small IMO.
Looking for references, I find him from 60 up to 80 cm tall.

hELP...

I believe you're probably right on with that height. The original puppets were approximately 26" IIRC.

Great job on the painting, BTW... I really like the tones you've gone with.

Thanks Tom :$

So I should keep it at 65cm heigth?
What about the length of the upper/ lower arms and hands...any idea reg. the proportions?

Markus

I don't know a length on the arms off hand, but they're longer than you'd think. They're just always bent in the film. When I redid my Illusives I made the arms almost touch the ground if they were "at rest". (by that I mean his fingernails almost touched the ground, not the arms.)

So maybe measure from the shoulder to the ground, subtract an inch or two and then subtract for the hand and wrist and you should be close.

Tom

Excellent paint job. It is 66 cm tall (from SW databank), You have a lot of ref pics here.
There are some of the inside "skeleton" where you can seen the arms proportions.
A cheap and usefull idea is to do a structure with a thick coper wire, then cover the arms and legs with the tubes used for isolation in air contidioting piping, put a little cushion in the stomach and wimp and cover all with silver tape.
It worked for me.

Some progress pics...

I made his arms fully aticulated.
It doesn´t look good, but it works and the structure will be covered by the clothes anyway.

What do you think?...Sorry that I forgot to turn the pic at 90° before I uploaded it :$

That looks very impressive what you did to the torso and arms... As a point of interest, i used 30mm diameter eyes for my latest sculpt and I believe the cking version had the same... These are bigger than the standard 26mm eyes. The iris on mine was 14mm across.

I just can't get over how he looks like he's just made a joke... and about ready to burst out laughing, but trying not to... very cool feature. :thumbsup

Also... like what was done with the torso, arms and legs. Very cool. Any more updates on this?

No news as of yet, still waiting for the softparts, the belt, necklace and the hair to finish this guy :unsure

Hey Phil

I tried to get my hands on another pair of eyes with the same color as for my cking Yoda, but 30 mm O.D. But the shop only has the regular 28 mm O.D. eyes in stock. I also believe the 30 mm ones would be more accurate, but.....:unsure

Can´t wait to get/ work on your new sculpt :D

Markus

Just applied the hair.

Might reattach it or add some more after I finally put on the softparts, since it doesn´t hold up that well.
Anyway...opinions please?

Looking pretty remarkable... and he looks like he's just gotten out of bed and not having had the time to comb his hair yet. Very nice. :thumbsup
