Endor Rebel Trooper build.

I recently started work on my Endor Rebel Trooper outfit. I started off with building a frame for the backpack out of PVC pipes and fittings. I'm actually planning to add some things to it that weren't there originally. I'll post those as I go.

I'm planning to buy an Olive drab colored front zippered Hoodie, and a pair of Olive Drab colored cargo pants. I tried finding some that had a swirling camo pattern but couldn't find anything, so I decided to just go for a plain Olive Drab color. I have a line on a pair of gloves that'll work nicely. Racking my brain about the boots. I'll have to make the vest, but that should not be that hard. The complicated part is going to be the hat. If I could find a pattern for the cap, that would be great.

Here's how the pack frame looks so far:

The one big hurdle I may face is the boxes that go on the pack. If any one has any suggestions, high-res pictures, or dimensions to share, that would be greatly appreciated.

While the real packs have some sort of hollow plastic boxes inside (the side against the frame is open) I just used blocks of foam.
Cover the openings in the canvas with sheet plastic (For Sale Sign) and no one will know.

Spray fabric paints work for doing the camo on the clothes.

Israeli Paratrooper boots (if you can still find them)

I remember seeing the cap pattern somewhere on the Rebel Legion forum. I hope it's still available there. I'll need it soon as I plan to do one for my wife.

Here is the best site I've found for the backpack:

I'll post some pictures of my soft helmet if you like. The best thing to do is get your hands on an ANH15 flying helmet.

If you really want to do it yourself, I have seen some templates which I'll try to dig out for you.

PS:
I have British army desert boots. They look great I think.

Wow I was actually given credit on that site. (shocker)
Rogue 9

He lists the soft pack as a Alice pack but it's not, closest I found was an Eastern European or Italian.

When I get home this afternoon I'll see if I have the box size in my notes.
My computer with all my reference is off line till I can get it fixed.

Here are some photos of my soft helmet (a modified ANH15). The ribbed section is made from an old pair of cotton Chinos and the ribs are my daughter's elastic hair bands sandwiched between the Chino material. There are 32 ribs on mine. I did all the stitching by hand - as you can probably tell!

And here's the whole costume:

The "hoodie" is known to be a white Swedish Army snow-jacket. It was intended to go on top of regular gear only for camouflage in winter, so it is made of a single layer of white muslin. It has buttons that would have been removed.
It should be very cheap to make yourself and not that hard if you already have a jacket pattern or can copy it from any old jacket that you have around. Most people tea-dye it beige and then spray-paint it like they do the pants.

Back pack:
There are several pieces here. Two parts are from the famous Visible V8 Engine model kit but should be easy to make yourself. I have the original parts so I could give you the dimensions:
* At the top is a long box, 1" × 3/4" × 5 1/3". The walls are sloping so the base is slightly larger than that.
* Between the two boxes are four round cylinders in a row. 1" tubing, 1.5" long, spaced 1/4" apart on a L-bracket.

The large industrial-looking thing on the lower box is of unknown origin but the same part was used also in the Millenium Falcon and on the back of a droid in Jabba's palace:
The part from the Millenium Falcon is owned by Steve Sandsweet, on display at Rancho Obi-Wan:

The Endor troopers wear beige wrist comm pads with a black greeblie. You could get those from TrooperPX on the Rebel Legion's forums. He is casting my sculpt. ;)
There are other threads about the costume around here, but the best resource would otherwise be the Rebel Legion's forum - there are tutorials and links to other resources there as well as several people selling parts.

Be careful with the spraypaint it seals the fabric (duh) and the pants can get qite warm during summer. The top ribbed part on the donut is a loose part by itself you get much better look that way. :)

Here's a picture of a fan-made Endor camp parka (not mine). Like Darth Lars said, it's a basic snow-oversuit with the buttons removed:

Wow Friendly Flyer - that's some paint job! I take it that it's a work in progress?

For reference, this is the marking inside the Swedish snow parka:

This is what mine looked like when I bought it:

They are huge - by the way!

I based my paint scheme on Leia's poncho as this is on screen much longer than any of the troopers.

I have identified FOUR colours:

The base colour which is the parka/poncho dyed BEIGE
A light green. APPLE GREEN is a good choice here.
A DARK PUTTY colour which is almost grey/green (This is the dominant colour on Luke's poncho and Han's duster). I have used a mid brown on mine instead of this and it looks OK.
A dark Green such as DARK OLIVE DRAB, DARK BRUNSWICK GREEN or HUNTER'S GREEN.

In real life the colours are a bit darker, but the overall effect is like this:

Thanks.

I'm still not 100% happy with them. I was a bit heavy handed on the brown at first and had to wash everything out.
If I was starting again I would do it a bit differently.

Marabu Textil May Green spray is a great one for the lighter green. It's very bright and looks perfect on the backpack. Unfortunately, their Rich Green doesn't look natural at all. I never tried their Pine Green as it looked too dark.

Simple Spray Soft Fabric Paints are OK but they tend to splutter and drip if not applied properly. I used their Apple Green, Olive Green and Chestnut Brown (this was the one that I over-applied).

I used Humbrol acrylic spray as well. Not ideal as it sits on top of the fabric and rubs off on things, but the colours are good. I used Grass Green (great for the back pack) and Brunswick Green to darken the whole suit nicely.

HOWEVER...
None of these products are cheap and their coverage is poor. I got through two cans of Apple Green, Olive Green and Chestnut brown on the jacket alone.
In total I got through 13 cans of spray dye/paint for the top, pants and backpack!

I also cant even find the pattern, is there another link?
Is there another way of getting the pattern? The only place to get one is from the Endor Bunker Yahoo group, and in order to join the group, I have to sign up and in order to sign up, I need a Yahoo email, which I don't have.
