eFX Reveals Stormtrooper Hero Legend Edition Helmet!

Umm... yeah, they do! Old Towne has been making canoes from ABS for years! Not sure what that has to do with the discussion (I am still trying to not comment on the direction eFX is going) but they do indeed make ABS canoes.

Ah well. :)

Party pooper! :lol

Such a shame to read this.
I agree that eFX should drop the "Legend" line if it's going to be constructed from different materials compared to the original prop. I've got no problem with them changing the materials, but if they do that, they should drop the line about using the SAME materials in their advertising and just market this as a replica which just happens to have a direct link back to the original molds.

I'll still be happy to buy a LIMITED EDITION Biker Scout helmet - even if it's fiberglass, but I certainly hope they're not expecting us to pay top dollar for something just because it came from the original mold. If the materials change (no longer making it a perfect replica of the original), the price point should change too.

Well I guess the question is this, then: Knowing your penchant for authentic materials and construction would YOU buy this were you not working with EFX? For years and countless threads youve been very outspoken about not settling for less then the same materials and going in to the minute details as your collection and builds show. I just dont see where a Fiberglass stormtrooper helmet molded from an original is any better then one scanned from an original as far as calling it a 'Legend'. To the vast majority of buyers out there its just a re-pop. Again, given your need for authenticity in parts and construction and materials Im guessing the Gino I know would pass on this offering were he still just a collector as this is certainly not the offering we were lead to believe we were going to get. I can see NON EFX Gino screaming "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" at his computer screen :) It is what it is and in the end its a Fiberglass facsimile and that doesnt really count to me as Legendary.

As stated before (see earlier in the thread), the Legend line is defined by the pedigree of the source/donor item (screen-used/production made item/original molds).
This has nothing to do with the materials used to make it nor does it extend into areas of the item that are not meant to be seen from the outside.
When it makes sense to use the same materials, we will. When it does not, we won't.
We will almost always come from the standpoint of trying to use the original materials, and then make a substitution only if we feel it is the only viable alternative when all things are considered.

I am not trying to be a devil's advocate pain on the ass, but my question is this - If the fiberglass version is more accurate to the original helmet isn't that better?

From what I read there would be many variances if ABS where used. Wouldn't that make it less accurate? Wouldn't there be a generational loss from creating a new buck to vacu-form the ABS onto to or would a new buck need to be created so the pull matches the original source? And if that where the case what would be the point of molding the original.

But thats the point the fiberglass is NOT more accurate in either finish or materials and thats not what we were told we were getting or expected and I guarantee you if Gino wasnt involved with EFX hed be pulling out his hair right now too. Im not forking out that kind of money for a fiberglass fascimile of an ABS helmet and neither are most of the other folks who were told we were getting offered an ABS hero. Thats not what we want and its that simple.

Well, dang...but as much as I'm a glutton for perfect accuracy I have to admit I'm still curious to see further updates and eventual finished product on the Scout bucket.
I really want one for display so I can keep my current one for trooping, so if it looks good enough... :-/

Why would fiberglass be more accurate and better if the original were vacuumformed ABS plastic,

If you make a buck using the actual vacuumformed movie helmet you get a exact imprint of the inside parts of the helmet therefore creating a exact buck from which you will use to vacuumform and create exact copies, when making fiberglass copies you have to mold the exterior of the helmet parts to get negatives molds so you can create your fiberglass copies.

Got it! Thanks for the explanation.

For me this was the liscenced market finally giving me what I always wanted them to.Years of people saying that old Georgie boy waters down replicas so they don't look or feel like the originals finally was proven wrong and I was looking forward to years to come of EFX bringing us direct identical copies straight from the archives.Doesn't get any better or more official than that. Now maybe we are just going to get what we've always got, watered down replicas and something I don't really have the passion for.

I don't believe for a second that an edition size of say 400 would not sell out. This is the first copy of the Hero ever offered and I know people who were keen to buy 2 even. Hell I was thinking 2 myself.

Don't blame Gino for this though as I'm willing to bet my entire collection he's just as torn as us.

Huge run of fiberglass... Small run of ABS.

No brainer.

You offer 400 in ABS... Sell out in 3mins.

No doubt in my mind.

The problem might lay with the international customers who already missed their chance on the Vader Legend due to outrageous international FedEx shipping. I really hope if eFx will do the TK Legend hemet like this they will find a better way for shipping...

Wonder what percentage of the population think that TK helmets were hard like fiberglass? In other words, it could be made out of anything and they'd still buy it.

As Luke said to Darth Vader in ESB, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

The good thing is that they are STILL considering making them with ABS, i guess what we have to do is trust in their good judgement. Im sure Gino and Brian wont enjoy the change themselves, since they are fans as well.

Better than just bashing, we should make our voice be heard and tell them we wouldnt mind the risk of the ABS helmets having a bit of wrong details or small inaccuracies. Im this first one that raises the hand of having an ABS helmet, even if it means the 100 percent accuracy might not be achieved or if it becomes more expensive or more fragile (which, as explained, isnt the case at all).
I mean, i understand why we all jump when this happens, we have been disappointed so many times by Georgey that we sense the rock and start throwing punches, but i suggest we breathe a bit this time since its not all lost.

eFX is one of the few companies that has had a close relationship with us so far, im sure they will hear what we want and take it into consideration.

What is the deal with it not being ABS? If it's painted white, realistically, unless you are tapping it with your hand how is anyone going to know what it's made of?
