EFX-Precision Cast Replicas Millennium Falcon

After the merge with the lightsaber thread, the precision scaled replicas topic immediately dropped off the radar, so since there was so much interest initially, I thought I would start a new thread specifically about the scaled models that EFX has coming down the pipe.

I searched around the net and found a few pics of the Millennium Falcon which is to be the launch of this new line. Initially the size was given at 10" but is stated as 13" in the news letter just released.

As for pricing, this is a quote from Bryan at EFX on another forum......

hi all!

The Falcon that we are showing is 10". This is a new line called "Precision Cast Replicas". It is a combination of resin, die cast and injection molded plastic. as decide in this format to make it more affordable. We are shooting for a retail price of $200-$250

More information on our website after Comic Con!

Oh and by the way, it has lights!

Bryan

Sounds exciting, can't wait to hear more and see some more pics. Anyway, here's what I've found so far.

I think it was already posted in the props section. I'll see if I can find the link.

Damn nice looking Falcon, but it's smaller than the 72nd scale FineMolds kit.

It was, but then the thread was merged with the EFX resin lightsaber thread. At first I thought it might be a good idea but later realized that it wouldn't get any visibility there. So, here again.:lol

Must they put a fat mounting pole into it thus creating a massive hole in the bottom?

The MR Falcon had the guns completely missing because of that.

Looks like the same problem again.

Agreed on both points. Would like to see a smaller mounting point myself. It could also be a bit larger and still be "manageable". The size of the Fine Molds falcon is small and really a perfect size for this ship. Wish they would have kept it around that size. Still, from what they've shown, the detail looks pretty good. It's just hard to enjoy a model when it's too little.

The ESB version has been done to death. There has never been a decent ANH offering.

That is just a pre-production model. The wiring will not be visible in the finished product I'm sure.

Landing gear.....definitely!!!

Why even external power? seems a battery compartment would be fine, and on a complex surface like the Falcon, easy to hide.

But probably more difficult to get to, without compromising a larger area of detailing than the pole up the middle?
No it wouldn't. The MF is greeble city you could just about stash a battery compartment anywhere on the model. And look a whole lot better than an acrylic rod stuck in the model.

For example it would pre pretty simple to make the upper gun mount twist and pop off to reveal a permenantly wired battery compartment...

but even if it is wired from the base its still pretty cool. I LOVE my MR but its not very practical as a desk model ;) This has a pretty good coolness factor and is pretty portable, and most likely not as objectionable to the misses in cost or space... although slightly bigger would be "cooler" 13 inches (IIRC) is respectable...

Anyone heard anything more about this series? Seems like a pretty exciting line of models to me, kinda strange to not hear much about it.:confused

My guess is that the scales of the various pieces will be all over the place like the old AMT/ERTL styrene kits, instead of in just one scale, which is likely why they didn't go with an established scale, such as 72nd scale, for the Falcon. That is one of the things that is keeping me from getting really excited about these.
