In my opinion, you'd spend on average $500 for a decent ANH helmet, then another $400 for a decent "basic" paint job. Yeah, $900 is a steal.

I'm always the first to appreciate a good comparison , and am naturally curious about the details you've compared. Your mention of the Darth Jones gave me an idea...

I noticed the the mouth walls on the DJ Helmet look slightly thicker than on the eFX helmet. Although, I don't have Photoshop at the moment to do a better photo analysis. Anybody else see the same thing?

No, sorry, look again...it isn't the same. It isn't a complete repaint but they did work on it by that time. I'm surprised you are not picking up on a couple of major paint landmarks that have changed by the Corbis shoot...and it isn't a result of wear...

I printed out a picture from comic con and then altered the position of the dome so it isnt leaning back as much. I think it looks superb just like it does when he asking princes leia about the death star plans in the corridor
I think it shows how accurate the overall shape and dimentions really are.

I will be pleasantly surprised if the final price point is $900. I would expect something closer to the $1250 range (who knows if pricing in that article is accurate).

Sure, let's start with the neck and left cheek which have been repainted...try to find the details in the boxes below on any of the Corbis images and then show them to me....the trimark on the neck as I call it and the dark imperfection on the left cheek (or even that dark splotch on the neck near the bottom left of the image below). They are not there. At all. As too are other paint imperfections on the neck. Why? Because it has been repainted...as has the left cheek, and possibly other areas.

And by the time of the Chronicles photoshoot, the repaint was much more extensive.

Thus, the ILM mold was taken off the original screen helmet before any repaint was done whatsoever, because when the helmet was at Don Post Studios, it is still in exactly the same condition as we see on the Tantive IV. But by the time of the Corbis shoot, there was some repaint done in particular areas. So there is a very narrow and definite time frame for the initial and subsequent repaint. And that is also reflected in the fact that a pull from the ILM mold shows the original paint in every way, including the C-scar.

BTW it would be nice for the neck on the eFX to have the trimark...

Seriously, I would pay 900 just for that lineage. If memory serves, the Don Post Deluxe retailed at $1200.

The two tone paint job looks great on film but looks ridiculous on display.
