If you are thinking of the Chronicles pictures, those are taken after the Graumans Theatre ceremony repaint/restoration.

My point was wasn't the helmet cleaned up after production? I am thinking of the pics with like Jefferson Airplane/Starship/Spacevehicle.

Try doing an experiment. Go find all the pictures you can with a light source showing the left side clearly and similarly for the right side and compare the surfaces and see if both sides really do look the same when put up against each other.
After that, go watch the movie and see how the paint scheme looks when he moves and with the lighting and all and see if there is something consistent throughout depending on camera angle and light source(s).
You will find that the dome actually obscures a lot of the rear paint scheme, so you may be fooled in some shots. But you have to find consistencies - what color does it appear as the most.
When you have done all that and still agrees with the eFX paint scheme, then that's cool. If you see the differences, then that's cool too. If you see it as something completely third, that's cool as well. At least you have done something to check for yourself and haven't just taken someone's word for what it is supposed to be.

Well... I have no clue what's part of the cast on the eFX helmets. Could easily just be filled in and then painted on when painted, to simulate the scar. Guess only eFX and GINO knows.

Well correct in shape, not necessarily position and I had to do an overlay to be sure, hence the post.
I don't think it is carved in on that casting, I think he just painted it there. There really isn't much relief there to begin with on that detail, and he probably didn't even notice it, so painted it in the approximate position based on the Tantive IV views which are deceiving since they are mostly 3/4 views....

Just keep in mind that the Corbis photos are after a repaint, not the original Tantive IV paintwork over the entire mask.

If you examine the mask carefully, there was selective repaint by the time of the Corbis images during the early part of the ANH tour and then a more complete repaint at the time of the Chronicles photoshoot.

Yes as I mentioned it would be simulated, likely in the paint...
EDIT: I'm almost asking myself why Gino wouldn't have seen the correct position of the scar on the casting he got for painting...either it was partially cleaned already or he just missed it if it is there in its original form.

The problem with the Corbis photos being b&w is that in some shots the tusks look black and in others gun metal.

It's funny, sometime in the future when the people who bought the "accurate" paint job have died, their relatives are going to look at the helmet and toss it in the trash and wonder why did my grandfather buy something so badly painted.
And if you leave behind a message saying it's supposed to look like that, the lawyers are going to void your will on the grounds of insanity.
