Editing out the word "Terrorists" from Back to the Future!!

So lets look at this thing as a whole...for TV they take out terrorists....we've yet to see what will happen on the blu-ray set.

Why would this be done?
What would/could come out of taking out the word 'terrorists' from a movie where:

1) Libiyans give a scientist plutonium to 'build them a bomb'
2) Then show up pi$$ed off in an old VW driving like a maniac
3) Shooting up the place with an AK47 and an RPG
4) Screaming in 'terrorist lingo'

So again....what are they hoping to achieve?
I'm sorry but points 1, 2, 3 and 4 make them 'terrorists' plain and simple.
Not man caused disasterists, not 'criminals'...they are TERRORISTS!!!
If its taken out of the blu-ray set...they've lost a sale....I'll stick with the original DVD set.

Screw the PC mentality....and the horse it rode in on!!!

That unedited E.T. Was originally only available in the limited collector's edition and retailed for $130. Has that changed?

That changed literally 3-4 weeks before it's initial release. Spielberg even came out saying that the new edition wasn't meant to replace the original, so every set got it.

But that still didn't stop the many criticisms that the packaging received where just taking the "anti-piracy" stickers off literally tore and ripped the paper packaging.

From what I have read, they are reshooting the parking lot scene and replacing the Libyans with a van full of white guys with shotguns.

"Dear Doc...
The VW bus containing the Islamic Terrorist's that murdered you in 1985 was traced by registration to a religious Mosque roughly 2 or 3 blocks from the world trade center in NYC..."

Classic (I hope the mods don't see my political remark - I wonder if I will get an infraction or it will be everyone on the entire thread) :unsure.

I watched 1 and 2 on ion yesterday. It made me realize that it's not a good series to watch back to back since a lot of the plot and scenes are replicated in the second one it can get tedious. I also noticed they edited the part where biff spits out the manure after it gets dumped on him. I guess that was too gross for tv.

well, since they can't defame followers of Islam, they're going to digitally re-paint the VW chartreuse and make them 11 long-haired friends of ***** ....

Ion also cut out Marty's butt cheek from part 3. They cropped just enough.

Yikes! Not that I actually watch that much broadcast tv these days, but I'm really glad Sweden has basically done away with all censorship, both at the cinema and on tv. There used to be heavy censorship of extreme violence (never sex or language) in the theaters but the censorship bureau has not touched a film in many years and is in the process of being shut down. In the 80's, films like Cobra and Wanted Dead or Alive barely made it through at all... the "hook" scene from Cobra and the "grenade" scene from WDoA were both brutally cut out. (Even when things were cut, you still had a legal right to visit the bureau and see everything that was cut if you wanted to.)

There is still a law against showing and spreading obscene depictions of violence, but then we'd be talking about snuff or pure "torture porn" with absolutely no artistic merit. (Can't really think of any cases at the moment.)

On the whole, movies and tv shows that air here are as they were intended by their creators. Sweden also doesn't dub any audio, unlike most of Europe, except for the occasional animated film. But even those are always shown in their original language.

I agree. The film was certainly made at a time where you seeing movies on a whim wasn't as feasible as it is today, so a lot of sequels simply retreaded territory. I think the worst case of that was Trail of the Pink Panther, literally a theatrical clip show.

However, I can't help but escape the feeling that this was not always what they were gunning for. Remember, they wanted to go back to the 60s during the Hippie era instead of 1955, but since Crispin Glover decided to be... well... it didn't turn out too well.

Overall, BTTF2 is ok, it's just too dark and moody to be as good as the original. Most of the film takes place at night, and there's lots of talk about murder and what not. Even as a kid in the single digits, that wasn't really fun.

Thank GOD for Back to the Future 3 though. That film I can stand behind fully and enjoy. I love that film.

I just couldn't believe Spielberg would Ruin such a Classic Film and re-edit that Scene, that's why I never bought E.T. on DVD yet... because of the Stupid Changes! It's good to know both versions are available...:)

What do you think the FBI would really do in that kind of situation? I'm still thinking they would be carrying Guns...the Walkie-Talkies would be clipped to their Belts, or in their other hands!

At least Spielberg had the good grace to include the original version of the film on the DVD, complete with shotguns.
