Editing out the word "Terrorists" from Back to the Future!!

Gone but not forgotten.
So the kids and I are watching Back to the Future part 1 on ION - we just happened to flip by and saw it was on - anyhow, the scene when Marty goes into the cafe to write Doc the "Do not open until 1985" letter, he recites a bit of it to himself and we noticed the word "Terrorist" was edited out. "Dear Doc, on the night I go back in time you will be shot - please take whatever precautions are --- blah blah blah" WTF? Why? Has the word Terrorist become more taboo than "Son of a *****" which was left in 3 times? We know the world is incapable of making movies as good as BTTF anymore so it should be a crime messing with them.

thats blasphemy, what next greedo shot first, govt agents in E.T. carrying around walkie talkies, this PC reboot of the world sucks, I hope the blu rays have the "real" movie not this eff'd up edited crap

I can't comment on this as I have an infraction, but if you are surprised by this, just look around.

Sad huh.

No. No, no, no. It won't. It will not. NO.

Why am I so sure? If you have the DVDs, play that scene with the commentary on. Bob Gale literally says that the recent TV cuts have edited out the "Terrorists" mention and goes on about how this is what separates TV from Home Video.

Even if you listen to the Q&A, they state that they wouldn't make any changes that were movie goof related because they don't believe in that sort of thing. *cough* Beowulf: Director's Cut *cough*

Give them time. The note will probably later be changed to read "You will ACCIDENTALLY be shot by some very nice men who will feel so terrible and heartsick about it for the rest of their days, and they will also adopt Einstein so that he has a good home."

Or - Dear Doc - on the night I go back in time, you will slip on a banana peel. Please take whatever precautions are necessary to prevent this event from happening.

You friend and fellow banana hater -
Marty

Hey hey hey! Let's just leave the bananas alone, ok? You might hurt their feelings.

It's a downward spiral.

Didn't they do that with ET too when it was reissued after 9-11? I'm amazed they didn't edit out the fact that the terrorists were Libyans and by virtue of that Muslim.

It's pretty sad that people feel the need to change/edit things about history. Let's just start telling kids that we don't have any enemies and that there were never any wars. We are such a peaceful race and we don't do or say anything that offends anyone. Disgusting trend.

Seriously...the next thing you know they are going to replace the shotguns in ET with RADIOS!!!!!!

WTF!!!!????

Or better yet, let's replace all the pistols in THE ALAMO with paint ball guns!!

The terrorist line in ET was removed for either the first re-release, or for TV and/or video. So a good 15+ years before 9/11. As mentioned, the unaltered original is now available on DVD/Blu.

Wow. You have to wonder what's going through people's heads when they make those decisions. I mean, what is the logical process? I can't even wrap my head around it. Usually I pride myself on being able to grasp another's point of view, but I can't even begin to fathom why somebody would think this was ok. Did they think terrorists were going to be offended? Did they think the audience is too fragile to hear the word? Lordy.

"Stop saying bad things about Terrorist, My Father and his father was a terrorist and i am offended by all this" "Or i go jihad on you" :lol
