Wow, JM, I am looking at normal items in my desk and all around my home in a new light after the last photo! By the way, Sharpies are on sale at Walmart just now...juss sayin'! =D Sweet build so far...I have always loved that car. Being a big fan you have probably seen this already:

Thanks. I've seen a few people that have custom built an Ecto 1, most are pretty close, but not quite perfect. Parts that are a little off, or the wrong color. But still a cool looking job. I always thought it would be to get a bunch of people together that have movie cars and just drive around town. Mainly, Back to the Future Delorean, 1989 Batmobile, Ecto 1, Jurassic Park Explorer and any other good cars like that. I wonder if you could get in trouble for doing that.

Nope, definitely not. Lot of people here. But looks very nice. Would love to be there seeing all those cars at once.
Back in 2009 I went to a Megacon, and a group all dressed up had their version of an Ecto car.
Been trying to figure out those 2 tanks without buying something off line that might take forever to get here. So I went to Hobby Lobby, Joann's and Michaels and finally found these plastic things at Michaels.
I knew I could cut them and combine them together, but it wouldn't be easy, and it wasn't. Had to fill them with styrene to make them stronger.
Here you can see the top rack is nearly done, and the 2 tanks, mostly done. Still need more paint. There actually a bit to big, but it works for me.

Got a bunch more done and I went out and got some guitar strings like people have said to do. They work out pretty good.
While the 2 tanks on the side are way to big, I'm still quite happy with how they turned out..
Guitar string really looks good here.
Decided that the inside needed the bed with the acks on them, so I made my own. Never tried bending styrene before, so found a youtube video for that and I say it worked out pretty good.
And nicely fits inside.

Last thing I had to do was the 2 antennas.
And of course here is the model supervisor making sure I did a good job.
I think this turned out pretty good. Theres a few parts where I found out that the part or color was changed from how it looked in the movie. Some of my parts are correct and others are not, but still close enough I think.

nice job, it looks good. i like that you improvised some parts instead of just buying what you need.
Thanks. And yeah, I tried to buy as little as I could and look around the house first. Always have done stuff like that. If I was able to have a big place full of model parts, I wouldn't know where to even start. Like if anyone watches the show Face/off on Syfy. Whenever a new season starts and they bring in all the new people into the big shop with everything, they freak out..... guess that would be all of us on here....if it was a place like that for models.
I think a group build of say a Millennium Falcon, making custom parts and all, I would say make it like 20 feet. Or maybe a 30 foot star destroyer.
