Echo Station 57, we're on our way....slowly

Re: Echo Station 57, we're on our way....slowly

Hi Kurt,

In all honesty, I don't know. I'm pushing as hard as I can to keep the project moving forward in between other 'proper' work, but its like having two jobs at the moment. I am behind where I wanted to be at this point. i.e I had hoped to be onto moulding and casting end of Sept, but I've a bit more to do now before that.

I'm keen to get some kits sold before Xmas as I need to start re-couping my investment, but equally I don't want to rush it now and screw up what seems to be working well thus far. Like I've said before I never anticipated such a big interest in the project and the expectations that go along with that, but its great to hear such a positive reaction from people and I want to make sure I deliver you all something special. - Lee I'm really glad I've helped you back into your childhood a bit. I feel the same when I'm building. Especially with the Empire soundtrack filling the workshop :)

I'll just keep forging ahead and see how far I can get. Thanks again for all the supportive comments!

Nick

Nick! I absolutely agree with everyone posting!

THIS is magnificent work! (y)love:thumbsup

No rush... this is only an inquiry... Do you believe there will be kits available within the next two months?

Re: Echo Station 57, we're on our way....slowly

Nick, don't change a thing. Your pace is delivering exceptional results. No need to mess with perfection!

Re: Echo Station 57, we're on our way....slowly

All sounds very cool Nick, at any rate, as Allan stated, no need to mess with this kind of perfection...no need at all!
That said, soon as you need funding buddy, its all in hand, i for one have no bother prepaying to help with molding/casting costs buddy, not sure about others, but im good with that if need be.

I honestly think with updates like this, theres no reason to worry yourself being behind.....id say quite a few keyboards got drooled on tonite :lol

You could say that again.

I'm completely blown away by your skills. Holy crap.

Please, please, please... Please sign me up for a kit. This is BY FAR, one of my favorites ships from the films, but especially Empire. Oh man... It's been forever since I put together a snowspeeder. I've had this one that I made, nearing two decades ago, always sitting somewhere near my computer, in what feels like forever...

Regardless of where my office is, that little model's always been stuck somewhere nearby.

I think it's time it got replaced. :love

I just gotta' find a good spot for it and keep it there.

Wow.

Re: Echo Station 57, we're on our way....slowly

:lol Oh, I'm sure I will... If not it's own table entirely. :D

I'm sorry... I only took that picture to show that I just love the design of this speeder and that I look at it every day. A big scale version wouldn't go there... Definitely not.

Did you get my email, by any chance?

Again... Beautiful work.

Nick,

Beautiful. It looks like CGI.

Isel... CGI sucks. How many time do I have to have this talk with you....? Effect models such as this ROCK!!!!

I can see I'll have to call you later and straighten you out again...:confused:lol

Its all CGI for me. I keep bumping my hands on the computer monitor trying to grab Nick's snowspeeder! Patience!

And yes effects models (Studio Scale in particular) rule.

Re: Echo Station 57, we're on our way....slowly

In modern day film making,CGI has it uses. Most often, due to the complexity of the FX shot,it would be incredibly difficult(if not impossible) to achieve the desired look/finished shot.Plus, you have these huge FX films comming out every summer(or every other summer),each one trying to outdue the last film that was released. However,I agree...nothing compares to the depth that a finely constructed film miniature can achieve, and even with the biggest budget FX films and the best CGI tech geeks emoployed,I can still spot CGI effects and they don't come close to a model.I both despise and admire CGI work, but models offer so much more and I've yet to see a film made today that can achieve the same things that films of 20-30 years ago had achieved.Case in piont, the opening scene of Star Wars.I was forever mesmorized at 4 1/2 years old when I saw that and it is pernamentally engrained into my memory.Models rule!CGI is just a good stand in when the impossible is required.

Re: Echo Station 57, we're on our way....slowly

Heh, heh. Thanks Guys. Don't worry the Surrey Skunkworks are still working away. I got totally slammed at work last week, but managed to claw some time back over the weekend. Have got the detailing for the gun bulkheads done now and am moving onto the harpoon gun. After that the ships itself is done. Pics will follow on in a week or so for all of the above.

I want to do at least the Pilot heads & flight helmets in Zbrush. I've been wanting to use it to originate an STL file for a while now and this seems a nice simple one to kick off with.

BTW ( blatant plug) check out this link to the EVE online game store.

I created a range of collectible spacecraft based on their in-game designs ( which are quite cool actually). They are meant to be real world versions of the virtual ships that the players are zooming across the stars in. The patterns were a mixture of SLA prototyping and good old fashioned styrene bashing!:)

Re: Echo Station 57, we're on our way....slowly

I am so eagerly awaiting your kit I can't explain it. Back when I was MUCH younger, living in Georgia, I built an AMT Snowspeeder with a smoke bomb and a fire cracker in the back of the model. I ran two strands of fishing line about 60 feet off the top rail of my front porch all the way down to the edge of my front yard. I set the speeder on the lines, lit the fuse and let go of the model when smoke started pouring out of the back. Tilting the lines up and down the speeder waived its wing tips, smoke billowing out the back, it hit the grass and stakes at the bottom of the run, sat about 1 second then exploded into a million pieces all over my front yard. I was slack jawed, wide eyed and from that time on the snowspeeder was THE most beautiful ship in my heart from the Star Wars universe. My only regret is not having a camera to actually film my first special effect. I might be exagerating, but it was gorgeous.

I am really looking forward to your kit. And I will NOT be blowing it up! :lol
