DV ROTJ Reveal project

well I've recently bought a DV Reveal helmet from a fellow UK RPF member, I've now started to draw up templates for the internal parts I need making.

So here's my attempt of drawing up my first part using CAD, I'm no vader expert so please bare with me as I don't know what most of the parts are called.
DVR%20Part%201.jpg

I'm going to print the part off on paper first to ensure its roughly the correct size/scale for the helmet that I've got and also make any size adjustments before i send the cad file off for manufacture.

But dose anyone have any overall sizes of this part?

Unless you're just particularly keen on giving your drafting skills a workout or want this to be an involving experience, many of these parts have already been done before to great effect. I could give you the details if you like...

Hi Neil

Good luck with your Reveal project! - I don't know how far you've got with yours, but be prepared to love it and HATE it on a daily basis! It can be extraordinarily frustrating at times, simply because this prop is so intricate and made from mostly long-extinct found items..

I make the total length of this part 180mm. Hope that helps.

Jeremy

Edit - Does that sound about right to you jme3 ?

thanks for reply guys, any info or heads up to where I can get these parts would be great thanks

Your right I'm starting to :love and :angry this project all ready as it's hard finding parts still available to buy off the shelf that is...

I know some of the parts will have to be replicated but thats the fun in doing a project like this

Just got an reply email from the UK company that still makes the dynodes who will be sending myself a quote soon for these parts, another part sourced:thumbsup

also thanks for PM's on additional information guys :thumbsup :thumbsup

Hi Neil,

I have spent almost a whole year researching parts for this reveal helmet a few years ago but never actually got the time to put it together yet!
I have most of the parts still separate as it hasn't been put together yet so I can take lots of reference shots of the parts I have if it helps. I might even have some spare parts that I have doubles of. I was thinking of casting some sets of parts out of resin as my friend has a prop building workshop and has all the necessary equipment and ingredients to make some top class casts.:love
I do have a spare original PHOTOMULTIPLIER that contains the vents and I could possibly spare an original small glenross screw and could spare a cast of a large one too for you to replicate.(not cheap mind!)PM me for details.
I would of course be doing this in my spare time so you would have to bare with me on this.
I am new to this forum and realize I cannot sell anything on here yet until I have been here 90 days and had 20 posts but I can help you if you want it.... :confused Have a look at my photobucket link for the Expansion screws and vents.

Mark.

Hi Mark,

Also I've had a reply email for the dynodes and there looking to be £18 each.....ouchh on my wallet:eek!!! LOL.... going to order these on Thursday... another part sourced:love

well printed off the part that I did on CAD last night and cut it out to get an idea of the scale and how it looks on the helmet see pic below: what do you guys think?

I stumbled across this during my research of the reveal and neck brace but didn't really see the point. If you want a accurate neck brace or at least a very good quality brace. Portumac on the *bay often has them for sale or at least he used to. See the attached pic. It is somewhat pliable to bend round the neck.

hi mark

I've sent you an email on the dynodes:thumbsup PLMK what you think

thanks for the heads up on the neck brace parts, mine is a fibre glass neck brace with a black vac formed sheet placed over.

The detailing on the vac form part is not that crisp, but has the metal dental expanders that I can re-use on my new neck brace.

Also did win a vintage jap camera late last night on ebay to get one of the internal eye parts from. So I'm just waiting on this to arrive so I can take it apart to see what the shutter part is like. I might make a cast from it or try and get another one from ebay.

I've made some more progress on the CAD templates for the internal parts to be machine from alu but this won't be finished until the end of the month.

ohhh yes! - one of those is the only way to go really in my book. From my mucking around with them so far I'd say the Extra Small size is your best bet.

Neil, your side zipper part looks good, it'll need to be shunted forward a bit though. The front edge of the part should be just about below the chopped off end of upper cheek tube.

Jeremy

Edit - this by the way is what you'll need to paint the neckbrace if you do buy the original kind:
http://www.artyfactsforcrafts.com/s...=product_info&cPath=162_22_52&products_id=365

It comes with a small brush and foam pad with an abrasive side that you're supposed to roughen your surface with first, but you probably won't need that. Brush it on lightly at first, and leave to dry before painting on the next layer, then repeat until the white vinyl doesn't show though. You don't have to be too perfect with it though as the vinyl does actually show though on a small part of the real prop's neck.

I think with all this talk of the reveal you might just have kicked me into starting my project up again. I need to separate the jaw from the face. Anyone have a guide for this? I also need a list of the correct ROTJ colours as I have a raw cast unpainted. O

I've won on ebay a Yashica Minister-D camera which may have the internal eye part I need for my helmet.

But I'm having difficulty in seporating the lense and shutter from the camera. Anyone here been able to do this? if so can you give me some pointers

well I've managed to take the lense apart, good 2hrs of unscrewing and a bit of gentle force I've manage to get the part out of the lense I need.

It's not 100% accurate but for the effort its going to do, I now need another camera to dismantle infront of TV whilst the wife is whatching boreing Eastenders:lol

First of a pic of all the parts

Pic of the final part i need for one eye again not 100% accurate but it will do
