I just loved the new movies, so I just had to make one of these. I modeled this after the one that comes with the book "The Art and Soul of Dune".
This book set is $800 and the Thumper that comes with it is a solid piece. I added some more details using screen caps and made it so it can open and close using a "piston" that surrounds a threaded steel rod. The spike can be removed (see pics). This is 3D printed using files I created in Fusion 360. I gave it a multi-stage paint job to make it look like it's dark metal that has been subjected to the harsh desert conditions of Arrakis. It doesn't actually "thump", but it opens and closes unlike the one that comes with the book. The piston features a real rubber o-ring and the 8 screws recessed below the Fremen engravings are all real. I'm very proud of how this turned out!
