DREDD badge colour.

I've ordered one of Lee's DREDD badges and was wondering if the collective genius of the costuming group could tell me the best colours to paint the badge. After watching the movie and looking at stills it could be burnished gold or bronze or a muted copper????. Any help would be most appreciated.

thanks in advance,

Malc.

I notice that is a brassy color compared to the more bronze color of the shoulders. I haven't done my badge yet (will have to make one of foam or buy one soon) but I have been doing some color testing for the shoulders and you can see 4 colors of gold I tested here in my thread on page two if you want to check out the color options I currently am using, I mention the color I am going to use for the badge as well in the post:

These colors are under $2 each at wal-mart (and I'm just realizing you probably aren't in the US by the spelling of colour, so not sure who would carry the brand there, but it's just cheap acrylic paint), so really you could buy them all and try them out on something white before to test them out for best results. If you unscrew the cap without taking the plastic off just to test, you could even return them. :devil

You will definitely need a brassy color and then a black for weathering (and you can mix black in the brassy color if need be for other shades of that color too). Hoping someone answers this with the perfect color suggestions too!

Just found this on the facebook group:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/DreddCostumeGroup.DragonCon2013/doc/483929421675305/

You might need to join the group to see it if you aren't already a member, but it's got lots of different colors people have used for all parts of the costume.

This is the most helpful bit in it for someone trying to paint a badge:

"The badge for the movie was cold cast brass and then black paint and black and brown lacquers were added for weathering (along with graphite paste). Same goes for the helmet badges. If you're trying to paint one, you may want to try gold Rub N Buff (brand). (J. Butler)"

Cool thread you linked to I see you're going to have a nice set of armour, sorry armor. :) when you're done
Actually I'm in the US, it's just the Brit in me puts U's in strange places. :) I think you might be right with the brass colour after watching the movie there's a definate difference in colour and tone between the shoulder armour and badge.
Thanks for your help.

I got so excited about replying I didn't even notice the location listing under your profile pic. haha. Thanks, hoping to have my costume ready for Halloween. The forum has seemed kind of dead this weekend, hopefully someone else has suggestions too this week.
