Dreads breaking off! Best way to fix?

So I've been getting my suit ready for a local convention and had the head on and off several times while trying to adjust things.

I put it away and went back into the bathroom where I had been looking at it in the mirror and found several dreads lying on the floor. Upon closer inspection they didn't just drop off, they had ripped off, leaving a small bit of foam behind on the mask.

I then inspected several other dreads that were still attached and found some of them in the process of ripping as well!

Now, I have only worn this mask for very limited amounts of time, a few minutes here, a few there. I've had it done for over a year, and it's been sitting untouched on a stand with a plastic bag over it, so it's not as if it's been handled much or roughly. The dreads were attached directly to the mask with superglue upon a recomendation from another Lair member.

How do I fix these so that it won't happen again, or get worse? I'm thinking that if I went with my first inclination of glueing them back in place without even removing the foam that was still stuck in place, the same thing would happen again.

Anyone with suggestions or similar problems? Should I have used a different glue in the first place?

This is just me and how I put them on. I put a tiny drop of gorilla glue in the middle of the dread don smear it around. then I put a small ring of super glue on the outer edge or the dread hold it in place and leave it till tomm. Ive tried hot glue and they just dont hold. I hope it helps. I was able to pull them off without damaging the mask lost about 5 cm mabey less of the dread but its no big loss to me. it cleaned up real easily too just got to have a big thumb nail to get under it.

The best way to keep the dreads from falling off is after you have used the super glue to hold then into place. You go around the dread with latex and that will form a bonding ring. Super glue is stiff and don't flex but the latex will make a flexible bond on the foam.

Cut and "x" on the dreadhole and pull the dread through it (for about 1-2 cm)

If the back of the mask was painted, incl the dreadhole, there is no glue in the world that's going to hold your dread if you put glue on a painted surface.

Best thing to do is removing a bit of paint in the hole and then use superglue to attached it, you can also use latex past to stick them to your mask or Immortal's way is also a good solution.

TMI above just happens to be the one who painted my mask! (Hi Scott!) :)
And it's been so long I can't remember if he painted the holes or not.

But that's not the problem, the dread is sticking to the hole, the break occured within the dread itself, just a milimeter or two from where it was glued.

And before anyone asks, yes, I do have dread rings on some of them, but the rings are very lightweight. And reguardless, the dreads that broke off didn't have rings on them.
