Dragonslayer Props - Any Out There?

I just watched the movie a couple of days ago and wondered if there were any props available. The amulet is a piece I'd like to have, as well as the spear, or even a dragon scale.

I don't remember seeing the movie mentioned on this forum. Do any replicas even exist?

There's some pretty nice look-alikes for the amulet on eBay, but i think the stone in the movie version was cubical instead of round wasn't it? There's some kind of stone you can get that forms in cubes but I can't remember what it's called right now. (working on a migraine I think.)

Is there a geologist in the house?

I've always wanted to do the Amulet.
When I see palm fronds I think of those dragon scales.

I have 2 of these guys on my livingroom wall over the fire place...
I found them at an indoor flea market...they were electric lamps.
I converted them to candle holders..seemed more appropriate.
They remind me of the Vermathrax!

Thanks Sarge :)
We're going for a "Song of Ice and Fire" theme...or as close as we can get Ha!

Hey, I've been trying to find the ones on ebay...any hints?

Funny this thread is up at this very moment, i started studying and blueprinting the necklace last week to make an accurate replica :D

Thanks Sarge :)

I just typed in "Dragon Claw" and got three pages of cool stuff including the amulets. :)

To me, the spear and shield are the two ultimate props from this film. A smaller scale of the Dragon would be nice too. That dragon is one of my all time favorite dragon designs.

I'm no geologist, but try looking into fluorite - it naturally forms into octohedrons. Most of the examples I've got are very deep purple, but these look a little more amulet-esque:

Yeah! That could be what I was thinking of! My wife's into crystals and stuff but she wasn't awake to ask last night. :)

There are a few garage kit renditions of Vermithrax out there, some are so so, and a couple are really great. Back in the 80's, the gaming miniature company Martian Metals sculptor Mary Peralta-Railing made a great 25mm scale one that's worth a small fortune if you can even find one now. There are resin copies of it out there, but they're pretty hard to find as well. I think the original metal one also came with a copy of the amulet. I can't find a pic of the kit, but it was basically this pose w/ the tail secured to a rocky pinnacle for support, and it had figures of the 3 human characters as well.-

Also, nearly as rare is a large scale head that Grey Zon used to offer before he vanished from the face of the Earth. It was extremely detailed, and a very nice cast from what 've heard.

I kicked around the idea of doing full size, machined spears years ago...

I still think about it from time to time.

Vermithrax is, was and always will be the best dragon on film period!

Although the ones from Reign of fire look pretty slick too.

Wish i had that Vermithrax head wall plaque that is awesome!

Yep so far Vermithrax is the top of the pile of film Dragons. Now it may all depend on wht they do with old Smaug in the Hobbit.

Bill Wieger does a couple of vermithrax kits, http://billwieger.com/store.html including one that is not showing on his site yet of vermithrax blasting the top of a castle, the flames are cast in clear resin for lighting. Last i heard he was working on a kit of the babies also, but I'm not sure how far along that one has come yet.

A little veer off topic here, I have to tell a little story in case some of you are film music fans.

When I saw this movie I liked it fairly well but I really hated Alex North's music. For years I told people that the music was a part of the reason why the movie didn't do well, it was too dark, atonal, incomprehensible, an all-too-realistic portrayal of the sort of stark uncertainty and danger of the times portrayed in the movie.

Jump forward 20 years. I found out that the music North did for Dragonslayer was partly a recycling of a rejected score he had composed for Kubrick's 2001. The 2001 score had been conducted for a CD by one of my favorite film composers who was a big fan of North--Jerry Goldsmith. So with a combination of avid curiosity and low expectations I listened to the North 2001 score and I was blown away, it's a really amazing score. The stuff that got recycled into Dragonslayer isn't terribly pleasant but for me it fits the intended use in 2001 very well. I enjoy the whole score, including the stuff I would still say was a bad choice for Dragonslayer.

One of these days I'll have to see Dragonslayer again and see if maybe my opinion about the music in that context changes.

This movie was one of the first memories of my Daddy and I seeing a movie together at a local store that had HBO. I remember going up there with him, and sitting around with the older gentlemen of our small town and watching the small television. They had cable (we didn't at the time) and this movie was on HBO occasionally. The other big one was Star Wars! :cool

Vermithrax is my all time favorite movie dragon. Though the Reign of Fire dragons did look good, as they are of the Vermithrax style, I did like Vermithrax better. Something about her evil grin as she's coming out of the Lake of Fire is really scary to me.

The spear, shield, amulet, scale, and perhaps a tooth would be the ultimate collectables from this movie. Also perhaps a lottery chip would make a good collectable. Overall, a great movie and one I need to own soon.

If Smaug is a portrayed as a 2 legged bat style dragon Like Vemi/reign on fire dragons he'll have a chance in my book but if he's a four legged one then nope sorry not a real dragon at least for me ;)

Cool soundtrack info. Thanks for sharing!

Yeah, I forgot about the tooth and lottery tickets. Those would be awesome props as well. Too bad this movie is mostly forgotten about. It would be nice to get some HD screencaps. :)
