Dragoncon 2012

Had a blast this year at our 2nd Dragoncon! Kudos to all those awesome costume builds! My girl and i mashed our 2 loves and went as a Steampunk Star Trek couple...TNG version. She did all the cloth bits and i the props. I found a steampunk TNG tricorder online, but no plans, just pics. I like it so much, i built one from scratch. Anyways, enjoy!

I love the costume alterations to fit the era and not just sticking on the steam punk to modern costumes. (y)thumbsup

BTW, did anyone see the Western Batman group? I looked for them for nearly 2 hours on Saturday night but it was so crowded I gave up. I'd love to see some photos - I'm going to have to chase down that build thread.

aye! that's it! Yeah, we didn't want to overdo it. Thx! I made the goggles and the gun belt and holster along with some dry brushing to give the weapons a good ole aged look.

Batman and Ivy

Great Batman! So very serious.
And Ivy came out nice. I would have like to see different flowers in her hair but it doesn't take away too much from the whole look. Just my preference I guess.

I thought the Harley Quinn costume was pretty cool too. I liked the simplicity of it. A lot different then most that I have seen.

This looks like all sorts of a good time :) ! It looks a bit "grown up", is this a kid friendly event, or better for just my wife and I?

Alot of people do bring kids during the day, but the night gets far too crazy. You'd have to bring your kids back to the room by atleast 7:30/8:00pm. Hell, even my boyfriend and I don't like staying out until midnight some nights. Especially Saturday and Sunday nights.

Events like the YA Lit Track's Yule Ball used to be safe for kids, but they started carrying an open bar this past year, and I heard some bad stories -_-. ALOT of parents were outraged by the fact they decided to do that. As they do have a costume contest that is geared towards younger ones.

It's really up to you and how you like to parent your kids; if you'd allow them to be around a certain amount of "adult" behavior, you'll be ok until the times I stated!

Thanks for the info! Sounds like it would be a good weekend for our daughter to have some time with Grandma! :lol Mabey we'll find something more local (near chicago) to intoduce her to the con scene, I had thought about Gencon in Indy, I know they don't allow alcohol. Thats something we like to keep away from with her, not sure about those policies at the chicago cons. We had thought about the SDCC for 2013, but to be honest Dragoncon is looking alot more fun for cosplay :)

Are other people in costume generally cool with taking pictures with you?

I have only ever had one person say 'no'. And he was really upset and going on about how he was having a really bad moment and there was a lot of stuff going on with him right then.

I backed away slowly...

For the most part people are there specifically for photos! They thrive on it.

I've said no, especially when I'm eating or JUST took a mask off and need a breather... but usually people understand that.

YYEEESSSSS.

Why do people come up and ask for a picture while I'm eating a Moe's burrito? WHHYYY??

I've also said no if I've lost my A.D.D. boyfriend and am in the midst of trying to find him as he sets off for shiny objects -_-.

Well maybe that's why nobody has ever said no to me... I usually just ask those standing around already posing... Come to think of it, the guy I asked that said 'no', did have his mask off, so now I know better.

I did ask a guy on Monday in a Boba Fett who had his mask off and he was more than happy to put it back on and pose.

haha!

Last year I looked so hilariously overheated in Wrex (and I WAS) that even when people wanted a photo of me and my head was off, they would say "oh but you should have some of that water first"

It was my 1st year at dragon con, I had a blast :) and although i still have not completed my Predator, i did some gothic Vampire thing, with a silicone mask i made.
My lady went as Red Sonja.
Made some new friends and actually met some id known online for years but not met before.
