Dr. Who Prop and Costume resources?

So, our costuming guild here in St. Louis is in charge of the costume track of programming for our local regional con. I'm working several panel discussions, one of which is on Dr. Who costuming. I've used many fairly random sources for the stuff I made, but I'm sure there are places I've missed.

Since joining here, I've found there are a whole slew of various message boards out on the net on very specific costuming/prop making groups that I never knew existed!

Thus the question.. Where do you guys find the best materials/discussions regarding Dr. Who props and costuming?

There is an MSN members group, The Doctor Who Prop Builders Club, plus a member here Phil (Cyberman) has just started a Cyberman discussion forum, check it out :thumbsup

Both good stuff! Thanks for the pointers.

Hum.. looks like the MSN group closed. Any idea where they moved to?

LOL, funny thing is I was about to add a thread about the Tardis Keys and the places to get some of the best ones...so I'll add them here. ^_^

First there is a Singapore seller on eBay with a set of Baker and McCoy styled Tardis Keys that are brilliant! They sell two types, one aged style here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Dr-Who-ANTIQUE-...rkparms=65:12|66:4|39:1|72:2125|293:1|294:200

and one chromed or polished set here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Dr-Who-CHROME-M...rkparms=65:12|66:4|39:1|72:2125|293:1|294:200

Now, I highly recommend the aged versions since the McCoy key is actually a lot like this and this is almost as close as it gets. The Baker key can easily have the antiquing removed and be polished up.

The best part about these keys is...they are NOT pewter nor are they aluminum. They appear to be tin or a similar heavy metal and therefore are reactive to chemical aging as well as polishing. The chrome types are very heavily polished so that they have a worn look to them...and that's cool I guess but the crispness of the details got marred from the process so I think they lost something. Best part is though...you can buy them both since the price is just shy of $12.00 USD and includes shipping.

Next, I just bought what is probably the best looking and most accurate McCoy key I have ever seen:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Dr-Doctor-who-T...ksid=p3286.m63.l1177&_trkparms=|293:1|294:200
I'm waiting to get it but from a comparison to the actual screen used key seen here on this page almost all the way to the bottom: http://www.richardwho.com/collectors/GrahameFlynn/index.asp

I'd say this is one of the best replicas you can get of this key for less than $30 USD. An additional note is the seller has told me this key IS in fact double sided and almost exactly identical on the opposite side. This may mean that instead of just molding the same side twice it actually features a variation in the sculpt and MAY...just MAY be molded off the screen used key...but I'm not holding my breath XD

As for sonic screwdrivers, well, don't count the Celestial Toy store out. I inquired about their sonic screwdriver and they sent me a couple pictures of their progress so far and even though their time table has been dragged out very long, they still assure me they will have a 9th Doctor styled sonic soon...er or later. till then you can still get a Russel Brown Baker or Pertwee model, and www.timelordspocket.com sells some really nice pieces as well, though you can still find some folks on eBay that sell some great home made styles and even here on RPF there are prop makers that can build you a sonic VERY easily.

I've been searching for Tenth's "Electric Blue/Red Stripes" (as Indy Magnoli calls it) suit. Reference here. The red pinstripes are very thin, but still there.

Anyways, in my searches I've come across some resources for his signature brown/blue stripe suit. First up, the full suit on Men's USA (be sure to choose the 4 button version). At $125, the minor inaccuracies are, well, minor.

Fabric-wise I found this swatch on MJTrends. The picture is kind of shoddy, but it looks to be a passable match.

Fashion Fabrics Club has a pretty expansive selection and I've found these: one, two, three, four (I feel like this one is pretty close, plus cheap),and five.

Never did find what I was originally looking for, but that's how it goes! :lol So if anyone has leads on the blue/red please share.

I can't straight-up vouch for really matching SA on any of this stuff; just sharing what I've found. Hope it helps.

I would have suggested doctorwhoforum, but it has been closed for registration for weeks...

My set of these just arrived - they feel a little light, but look really good. And for £7.50 inc postage, you can't really complain for two replicas.

Cheers

Yes exactly! Did you go for the polished or the antiqued set?

yeah they are a bit light, especially compared to the pewter set, but not as light as aluminum. I'm still guessing tin though. I'd need to test them with a chemical reactivity test at the lest but i don't have any of the chemicals i'd need to test tin *shrugs* still...pretty sweet set! XD

Has anyone bought the Doctors fob watch from this seller?

I had a look at it, but the official version is a lot cheaper. Also, as I don't have the eye for that kind of detail, I can't tell if it's any more accurate than the official one.

Cheers

Doug
