My brother used to work at a TV station years ago, and picked two of these once...(they were broken)...coz they looked "spacey" and thought I'd like them.
You can imagine my surpirse when I saw one when the Doc emptied his pockets in Ep 1 of "Genesis of the Daleks"

Anyone know what it actually is??...(my brother didn't)

Looks like a number of things stuck together and painted red, a 3 pin plug on the left there for example, dont you just love retro 'Who :lol

Oh it's nothing that's been made-up...Whatever they are, they have a purpose.
The red bit's all metal, and there's holes in the bottom plate suggesting it was bolted or screwed to something
