DP biker scout helmet differences?

I just got a DP Biker Scout helmet, but I'm not sure if it's the standard or deluxe. The bottom half of the faceplate is spread out, so I'm thinking it's a standard, but it seems like it's made of a heavy material. I checked out sites like Starwarshelmets.com, but still couldn't figure it out. I was wondering what the most noticable differences are?

I will try and post pics tonight.

Also, what are the best ways to heat it up and reshape it, without damaging it?

Thanks in advance for the help.

The standard DP was made of vinyl, the deluxe was made of Fibreglass and painted black on the inside. You have a standard version which can be made to look quite good if you can fix the vinyl in place. Don Post definitely had an original helmet to work from or an original mould as there are too many subtle similarities between the originals and the DP , standard helmet included. I would love to hear from anybody who worked at DP and knows anything about the making of their Biker Scout helmets. There is a tutorial or two on how to fix the warped vinyl helmets on Bikerscout.net.

Yo john that u again mate?

Yeah steveo, the deluxe dp is rare as hens teeth. If theres flaring, its the standard. The std can be fixed, but are a real biatch to keep the shape. I fibreglassed mine in the end. And after all the eork, it does make u wonder if u should have just bought a ks or mlc in the first place.

If wolf is the same guy as lonewolf on bsn, hit him up for one of the most accurate fan made vac formed tb helmet ever!!!!

Look up acrylikhan on bsn, he did one of the most comprehensive step by step conversion. I used a heat gun and shapef it round wire, but mine was a rubies, which is just a little more solid then plastacine. Although the original dp was also vinyl, it was a stiffer vinyl which held its shape better

Hi Nate, yes I am that guy, just not so lonely:rolleyes. Nice to meet you on here:ninja

hey, thanks guys. What's the best way to remove the pop rivets and remove the face plate from the hood cover? Also, would the oven be a good place to heat the helmet?

You would not want to put vinyl into your oven. If you do, you should never cook meals in there ever again. Toxic.

Hair dryer is the way to go or if you know what you are doing, you can use a heat gun.

Have no clue how to fix this piece. There used to be loads of threads over at bikerscout.net

I bought a prototype fiberglass Naboo pilot helmet from Matthew Post a few years back (it was used a a sample for Lucasfilm before making the vinyl versions through Don Post - I don't believe the fiberglass version ever went into production).

Anyway, I asked him about the Biker Scout Deluxe/fiberglass. From what I recall, he said that they only made about 3 dozen or so of the helmets, that were ever for sale.

Jez has a nice page on his site with some great pics, where he says only 25 of the fiberglass helmets were made:

Don Post Biker Scout Helmets

So, yeah. Very rare.

The BEST way to get rid of the wide warped faceplate problem is to permanently bond/glue/affix the faceplate to the helmet piece. Dremel out the extra rim along the neckline to allow it to fit over your head, like a trooper bucket.

That's what I did with mine :angel

I am one of the lucky few that owns a Altmanns thanks to my mate Nate. I want to get a Wolf one for comparison. I'm not interested in an MLC. Good luck without the mod

Thanks for the advice guys. I appreciate the feedback. Keep it coming if there's more.

The Altmann's Biker Scout is actually a great helmet, if you can find one.

I've got the Altmann's X-Wing pilot (nice, but a little small), and the Altmann's imperial Gunner (undersized - I sold it)
