Donnie Darko Frank Mask by Don Post

So I watched Donnie Darko again now that I'm older and can appreciate it more, and kept thinking how I love that mask, then I remember the RPF, so I looked around, but none of the masks are accurate enough for me, on the other hand, I don't have the time or tools to make one the way I would want it, so I was looking at ebay, found out Don Post made these, and they looked spot on to me.

I was wondering if anyone had ever bought one of these or knew anything about them as Rubies is normally garbage and Don Post is normally hit and miss with things.

Here is a picture:

That's what I figured, but I've hear of Don Post and Rubies Helmets being very very accurate for Star Wars or close enough that they could be modded.

The only thing wrong I see on this Don Post mask as far as it's actual design (Where the bumps and ears are, how long/tall they are, etc is that the other ear is not pointed as it should be, while the material may not be great, the mask itself might look good enough that with a few alterations I could make it good for display and possibly reinforce it for wear.

Frankly I think for what the DP mask costs, $60 on Amazon, you could make a nicer looking replica with readily available materials. What you would need to do to the DP mask to make it accurate would be so extensive IMO its not worth using as a base.

If I were to make a replica on the cheap, I would start with a regular skull mask and modify it by cutting off the jaw and then paper mache all the details in, use some metal coat hangers, paper, and masking tape for the ears, and take a plastic easter egg and cut it in half from top to bottom and use those for the eyes (remembering to leave slits to see out of).

With some creativity and elbow grease, I bet you would have a nicer replica than that DP mask and for a fraction of the cost.

Ack o_O, High quality VHS you lie!!!

But with that picture I actually think I could make the mask.

Thank you Art and Ray :D

I took a number of shots of the screen used mask when it was at Comic Con. Unfortunately they weren't great pics, but I'd be glad to post them up if you are interested.

I would be ecstatic if you could find the time.

Thank you in advanced.

Also, this is why I have to live in SD for a few years.

Thanks, those pictures are really really helpful

In the 3rd and 4th pictures I like how the little hole for breathing looks like it's a small face in his picture ^.^
