If I'm talking about a finished helmet it would be painted with magnets, ink, clear coats etc..
The kit you get is a raw cast rough trim. So you'll need to clean up the edges then sand it and primer it for paint. Very minimal work to get the painting process started, the 3 colours of paint, inks and several coats of clear are the more time consuming part

maybe I missed this, but what measurement are you making when you say 24" head. Is that round diameter? heigh from chin to top? ear to ear? I just want to make sure it will fit with room for padding.

I am certainly interested in a raw cast.

It's the circumference of your head just above your ears that is being measured here.
