Does anyone know the actual color of the Stardestroyer?

I am in the process of painting my stardestroyer but am unsure what shade of white to use. I have seen many photos of the model on this site and it almost looks to be an off white like a beige or something. I didn't know if I should just go white and do a wash over it, or the way I was really thinking of going is using light aircraft gray. Does anyone concur this opinion or if you have any better info please let me know. Thanks very much!

I've seen the filming model (many years ago in the Magic of the Myth tour). It's base coat is essentially a slightly off-white (*very* light grey). There are some beige panels here and there (especially underneath the top bridge structure) which add some visual "texture". I've noticed that it appears grey from a distance because if you look closely you'll see they penciled in thousands of tiny panel lines all over it. So depending on your scale you could get away with a light grey or off-white and not be too far from the original.

That's pretty much what I figured. I know all the scribed and pencil lines give it a kinda dirty look from a distance. Thanks for the info. I'll go with a really light gray as a base.

Hi Morsesith21. I am new in this community and hope it is OK I place a question here ? I am also in the process of building a stardestroyer and will do the first color in about a month. My question is if you have a picture of your results with this color, or if you could tell some more on how it worked out ? BR Stormtripper

Hi, I just used a basic flat white for the base color and then gave it a light wash in black which gave it a light gray look. I think it worked ok. I then just added weathering and some light gray paneling on top of that.

Like Jamie said, flat white, then aged with various shade of gray using an airbrush (from the guy who painted the original TESB ISD, not sure if the ANH one was painted the same way).

Morsesith's paintjob looks very accurate !

I believe the ANH model was painted flat white, though for some miniatures they mixed white with another color like "grime," etc. to tint it. Over time, that mixture starts to turn a bit yellow so the model today might have a hint of "beige" in it. Hope that helps!

The answer depends on which star destroyer. I've seen both in person -

The ANH 3 foot-ish SD was white. I saw it in person at the where science meets imagination tour at the Franklin institute in Philadelphia.

The ESB-8 foot-ish SD is a very light gray - almost white its actually similar in color to the Millennium falcon... not that this information will help since that is a hotly debated topic as well. With a flash photo camera it looks totally white.

Saw the Star Destroyer in person and it was off white with tons of light grey tone panels.

It also needs to be caked with dust and dirt and painted over again. :) The original is awful upon close examination.
