Doctor Who - Letter

The blue one is too blury to make anything out, but I keep on squinting at the one on the top left (next to the special delivery label)
It looks a little like a bird on a branch from one angle.... but the more I look, the less sure I am.

It seems the white one's pattern is mostly made from the post office cancelling and a rip that goes from top middle down onto the blue one. So our chances are definitely limited until they put this thing on display. I'm also wondering if there is some text in the graduated bit of the special delivery sticker.

Dang... I can't believe how many times I looked and didn't see that there was one of those round postmarks over those two stamps! That really does make it hard to see what they are.

When I said I could print the thing as a whole I didn't mean printing it with the stamps on as a flat image... I meant I think I know how to do the envelope so it can be printed on one sheet and folded.
I'd leave the areas where the stamps would be white and print the stamps individually to stick on. Like this:

(And run it through the printer after the stamps are on to get the postmarks.)
If I'm right it should be possible to just fit it onto an A4 sheet but it would use a lot of blue ink so it's not my preferred solution.

My WIP images are just me sorting out the layout of the stamps. I may end up buying the stamps I can, but as I've said before, the foreign ones will be very hard to get hold of.

Image is broken:cry

Odd, it works for me.
Um... I'll stick it on my photobucket account, that should work. Here: (click to embiggen)

The stamps would all be printed individually on sticker paper (or I'd buy what ones I can).

Basically, if sized to fit exactly on an A4 sheet, this template can be folded to make a C6 envelope. Advantages: it allows the printing of the text as white, to be gone over in silver pen, and means we can get the correct 'Tardis-blue' colour Also the white areas make for easy positioning of the stamps in the screen-accurate positions. Drawbacks: uses a lot of printer ink, might not print a nice even bold colour. But this depends on the printer used. (sorry if I'm repeating myself... I guess I'm thinking out loud to weigh up the pros and cons)

BTW, the final image (if I go this route) would be 300 dpi and wouldn't have the fold lines marked.

The screencaps show the envelope was white on the inside. I'm not sure if this means they used this method, or if they were just extremely lucky in getting the right colour envelopes. Seeing as they needed at least four, with probable back-ups for the scene where Amy tears hers open, they might have gone this route.

Apologies for the wordiness, here's a wolf in a fez to make up for it:

Sorry if I've missed something, but would it be easier to include the stamps in the print anyway? Then adhere the real (or fake) stamps into position over the printed stamps. It'd be an extra 5c worth of ink, but would reduce the possibility of a "white spot" if placement wasn't perfect, and the prop could still be used for "show and tell" even if you haven't found "all" of the real stamps.
Just my 2c stamps worth.

That could work too, I guess. But if you were to do that, you might as well print the whole envelope blue. I'm basically still just throwing ideas around at the moment.

I'm still hoping these will go on display at one of the exhibits. In the meantime I can keep googling stamp images and keeping an eye out for blue C6 envelopes.

I've noticed that, within the UK, if you want a decent blue tardis envelope why not just buy a Doctor Who birthday card. The envelopes that come with them are very nice and look just like the one for the show. Think this is what I will do when I complete mine, they are abit pricey (£1.20) for just the envelope, but would be better than printing the colour envelopes off. Then I will print the stamps off onto paper cut them out and glue them on. As for the writing, I have been trying something in publisher where I can just change the colour of the font and print onto the envelopes direct.
...More to come...

The envelopes for most of the Dr Who stuff are a light blue nothing like the ones in the episode, I've never seen one in that shade.

Had an idea for the addresses if you have access to a laser printer you could use silver/white iron on transfer paper. Just a thought.

I am going to take a look at 2 paper stores to see what I can come up with for the envelopes.

Here was my first attempt, It was rushed and inaccurate, but I got this envelope from hobby craft, I feel confident that it's the right colour.

In this first attempt, I used sticky letters which were too large (bought from hobby craft) I have made a second envelope with smaller stickers also bought from there, but maddeningly I had misplaced the large letters which I needed for capitals ( it also had the numbers), so on 2nd attempt, lettering was closer accuracy in style and size, but not all there. I didn't have time to get more letters as I was doing the night before I went to a con, this was given as a gift to a friend.

I have taken pics, but aren't really happy with the standard, little better than this one, just different flaws:/

I'm in hospital at the mo, so it's gonna be a few weeks till I get another go at it.

The color does look pretty good Ood! Now if you just get all the stamps on there and the smaller lettering it will be done. Sorry to hear ur in the hospital, what happened?

I spent a bit of time on this one this morning.
My guess is a flower, possibly a thistle or poppy looking thing. The cancellation stamp obscures it enough to cause proplems identifing it.:unsure

Cheers, like I said ts a hugely inaccurate quick knock up, I am getting there though and will post latest attempt as soon as I'm back on my feet.

Am in hospital gaving had a large chunk of my aorta replaced with Teflon tubing. Had surgery Tuesday, recovery is going well so hope to be home in a week or so.

Speedy recovery mate!
Hate hospitals! but see there need every day!

You do know, don't you, that when they refer to "propping up" in the hospital bed that it has nothing do with here?

Just checking. Hope you're tip top again soon.

Posting great prop making pics from hospital? You're making everyone else look bad, you know that, right?

Seriously tho.. nice find with the envelope, and it shows that stick-on silver letters are certainly a possibility for how the prop was made. Something else for me to look out for while sourcing blue envelopes around here.
