Doctor Who - Letter

I'm fairly sure 'faking' Royal Mail postage stamps is up there with counterfeiting bank-notes, so if I go the way of printing these out I just want to make sure I don't get in trouble. Plus, if I find a way of making these in multiples it'll be a heck of a lot cheaper than buying all those stamps, even if I could get hold of those foreign ones.

If it is like it is in the US it is the same as counterfeiting money. The stamp has a monitary value.

DBCooper is pretty much dead on, you can put stamps on cheques and postal orders to make up any difference. Although I doubt his namesake would have been happy jumping out of a plane with a bag full of stamps.

Just as I thought. Best to cover my ass, as it were, vis-a-vis any legal ramifications.
I may have a way to print the whole envelope as one, but it will eat up a lot of blue ink. I'd love to know how they did the address on the actual prop. The number on the back looks like it could just be a peel-off sticker from one of those craft sheets.

If you print an paste the stamps and then print a postal cancel over them I think you will be fine. It is the people who actually try and sell or send letters using false stamps that get in trouble. You are not making the stamps for monitary gain. Even if you sold the finished prop with the stamps on it they can not be used again. You would be making a monitary gain but on the entire prop not just replicating stamps.

I wouldn't worry. Prop makers here and on other sites have been doing it for years. I have heard no horror stories. Just use common sense.

Best,
DBCooper

PS Do not print the stamps on the envelope. It looks *****... We work in a three dimensional art. These props are not unlike sculptures, they are picked up and manipulated and felt. Realism is the thing. Good Luck. :thumbsup

Looking great!
If possible it would look much better if each stamp was purchased and stuck on the envelope, not printed.

When I said I could print the thing as a whole I didn't mean printing it with the stamps on as a flat image... I meant I think I know how to do the envelope so it can be printed on one sheet and folded.
I'd leave the areas where the stamps would be white and print the stamps individually to stick on. Like this:
attachment.php

(And run it through the printer after the stamps are on to get the postmarks.)
If I'm right it should be possible to just fit it onto an A4 sheet but it would use a lot of blue ink so it's not my preferred solution.

My WIP images are just me sorting out the layout of the stamps. I may end up buying the stamps I can, but as I've said before, the foreign ones will be very hard to get hold of.

I'm hoping to make River's letter, as my Wife will make a pretty decent "River" for our next con. Though the stamps on her letter are unlike the rest of them.

well it would probably have to be before October last year was all I was meaning as that was when they filmed the diner sequence. I just tried red and couldn't find anything in the time frame of january to November 2010.

Yeah I keep trying searches myself. Not had the luck or keen eyes that youngpaddy1 has, tho. Still, the fun is in the hunt, right?

what size are you going for on the envelope, Angelus Lupus? I'm looking into buying some.

found a lot of copies of the albanian stamp on ebay but I'm not sure I want to pay £4+p&p for a tiny scrap of paper.

Silly question.....you guys have done a great job identifying most of the stamps. Maybe a post to a stamp collectors forum would help identify the other stamps and a place to purchase the actual ones?
