Building a Kroton for Reverse Polarity 2013 with a friend of mine. This one is a shout out to the wonder Gallirey One Prop builders, especially the Morbius builders ... man you guys are good ... hoping to get your attention, especially Costume Station Zero :)

Doing this one in 2.5 months out of cardboard.

The Kroton may seem simple but it has many angles and over 80 little pyramids...damn you pyramids...krotons22222.JPGP1020156.JPGP1020164.JPGP1020165.JPGP1020166.JPG

Now the back is also challenging in that you have these long triangle panels ... so I had to cut 2 inch cardboard panels and scored in the middle to fold...glued 11-12 panels sides and a whole lot on the back...P1020170.JPGP1020171.JPGP1020173.JPGP1020174.JPGP1020175.JPG

So I finished the Torso on all sides with the exception of the arms which will be taken care of by my friend David. I noticed that the cardboard started to warp a little so I had to reinforce the inside to prevent warping...
Now I am working on the shoulder and next area...
My wife thought I was building a large crouton LOL! no I told her it was a Kroton! HA!P1020177.JPGP1020181.JPGP1020182.JPGP1020183.JPG

Sides are done, now working on the shoulder portion which will hold the head.P1020206.JPG

You would think that this creature would have been easy but it actually has a lot of repeat details...arrgh...

This is awesome, and coming together quickly. Your little stepped pyrimids look awesome, but it looks like the original were smooth sided, will you be covering them over with a layer of paper/thinner cardboard? Might make it easier to paint too.

Wow. Love to see some appreciation for the old school. This is looking great- really dig what you're doing for the detail work!

Glad our Morbius and Zygon inspired you- and yeah when you get closer to finishing would love to chat with you on the podcast about this!

I take it you'll be debuting this at gally in the Masque or something?

I know the body will be easy to make using cardboard, body, skirt, & head. But I wondered what your going to use for the arms, claws & acid tank weapon?

Awesome job by the way :D

Forgot to mention about the crystal solution feed tube.

Thanks everyone for the positive feedback!

Gibbtall - I am going to leave the little pyramids as is...I am fond of the step structure, looks neat.

manofsteel25 -yes, got your attention :)...I follow your pod cast and love it! I am having a tall friend of mine wear this one at Reverse polarity in Toronto for Nov 1st! He is working on the head (hopefully it will spin with a lazy susan) and the arms...I am a little stump with the shoulder part but I should be able to figure this out this week :)

nathanalaneller - arms will most likely come from duct piping or from the gutter drain extension...the claws will come from grippers and the acid tank weapon will come from the fog in a can attached to the cylinder.

Completed the Shoulder, neck section. Just need to paint it and attach the head. Also need to purchase some silver cloth to attach to the bottom to cover the legs. And then need to figure out the harness and cut out the slit for the operator to see through. Crap I thought I was almost done ;)

Okay the Kroton was completed last week and was shown off at the Reverse Polarity convention Nov 1-3 2013. The best moment for me was when we were walking the Kroton across the hotel floor to the masquerade room when Peter Davidson walk by and looked the Costume. I quick called to him and said "Look Mr. Davidon, the head spins!" and spun the Kroton head and to which Peter's eyes widened and he responed "oooh...most interesting..." LOL

Here is the final pic - so tall we had to bend at some points in the hotel hallway.
