Doctor Strange

I would hazard a guess it would be something like this: detail.jpg

Perhaps with an overcoat replacing the cape, but still providing some of the "billowy-ness" that seems appropriate for the character?

As with the comics I think he should start off without the cloak and later earn it.
The cloak can be visually stunning and cuts a great character silhouette for this character. Yes, I'm all for the giant upturned collar.

Comics are a visual medium, of course, but movies are even more so, with their huge Techncolor images up on that huge screen.

So visuals are extremely important. And a cape adds a lot to a character's visual grandeur and importance. Dr. Strange should have his cloak of levitation as soon in the movie as is reasonable, to help establish his importance and power.

It would likely be a combination of practical effects capes and CGI capes, just the same as they've done for Thor and other superhero characters with capes.

A long cape can move on screen in a way that robes just cannot.

Maybe I'm too much of a purist, but not only do I really hope they keep Dr. Strange's long cape in the movie, but I hope it even has the high, stand up collar, and iconic Steve Ditko horns.

The high collar may not make it, since from some camera angles it would block, or even just partially block, the actor's face.

We see Cap without his helmet a lot, and we get that "inside view" of Tony Stark when he's wearing the Iron Man armor. Both are so we can better see the actor . . .acting.

So while I'm not expecting it, I would love the see the Ditko design survive into the movie.

hmmm I'm not sure how I feel about the costume. But I'm sure 'ol BC is going to knock it out of the park

The date on that costume graphic is over a year old. Even the logo isn't the current one. I'm not seeing any news elsewhere about official costume images having been released, so I don't know what the provenance of it is. ,Kevin Feige was just at D23 with this news. (Quoting report) Marvel universe”, his costume was finally revealed, and it sounds very comic book faithful. He was apparently depicted in that classic red cape and a more traditional blue outfit which clearly pays homage to the work of Steve Ditko.

I'm putting my faith and hopes in that.

Anyone else think Cumberbatch and McAdams make a weird pairing? Assuming of course she plays his love interest.

It is an odd pairing. Then again I can't think of many women that, at a glance, seem like they could pair "perfectly" with him. He's so self-contained.
I think Rachel could be an interesting Clea.

Re: costume; it was fanart, there's no official costume released yet.

However, Chiwetel has been seen in his Baron Mordo costume in Nepal this week. That looks very promising!

I like that Alexandra Byrne, who did such a good job on The Avengers: Age of Ultron, has put Cumberbatch in this early scene into civilian clothes that foreshadow what the comic book outfit looks like; the blue for the body and red in the stand up collar, and the longish coat that gives some of the same silhouette. It's very clever and gives me hope that his final outfit, once he attains mastery of the mystic arts, will look a lot like the one in the later Steve Ditko comics.

I heard that the colour palette for the outfit was darker and more muted, but above all; menacing. The comics are very colourful and marvel seems to subdue almost all costumes. But I kinda like it. There have been very little MCU costume 'updates' that I didn't like.

Hmmm, good compared to how bad it might have been, BUT the Eye of Agamotto is missing, replaced by some pendant with his skylight design instead, and it hangs too low. It's supposed to hold his cloak closed at his neck; not dangle from a chain at his chest. WHY? AND I'm SO sorry to see the iconic collar reduced to something short and so ordinary. Again, WHY?

His facial hair looks a too light, too. Glad they did it, but it should be darker, thicker.

I might have said this already....I think this is going to take the general movie going public off guard like GOTG did.
They have never seen anything quite like it before. This ain't Harry Potter.

Concept art looks wonderful.

So does he now live in a high rise condo?
I was hoping to see his Santum Sanctorum as the Victorian brownstone in Greenwich. It's so iconic I can't see why they wouldn't do the brownstone.
I guess that interior could belong to either place.

Artistically, I hope the magiks, like those tendrils of energy from his hands, move slowly and organically rather than arcing like electricity. That would appear more mystical than scientific.
