Doc's foam/fiberglass work + Mark 42 painted pieces

Re: Doc's foam work + Mark 42 glove that when hand raises up triggers repulsar vid

Thanks again Doc.

For everyone stateside, I found the Gardner Bender LET Spray at Home Depot in the Electrical aisle. The bottle is no bigger than a silly string bottle so I am curious to see how many it takes to do a full suit. I will be attempting a test piece sometime this week.

I was wondering Doc, do you think it makes a difference between using ModPodge and EVA glue (Elmer's) I used 2 coats 50/50 PVA and then one coat uncut PVA on my other suit...thoughts?

nah i dont think so. I would use that but just got lazy to use brush:lol Give it a go n see what ya come up with. Yea the spray is small but it does cover suprisingly well. Since I posted that darkside told me bout the spray I bought 2 cans n Ive coated lots m lots of stuff and barely right now finished last one:(:lolAlways start with very light coat.

The reason why its so important to take your time and follow instructions the way the label says to not just on the painting but for modpodge and LET is that if you rush it say fir example you rushed the sealing but followed directions for adhesion promoter and paint it will still be meaningless for the fact that if the coating prior to painting does not have a good bond to the foam you will have gauranteed cracks. By doin very light 1st coat make the 2nd bond that much more. If you tape it after it dried like I did for mark42 glove and when you remove the tape and paint comes up with it, its cuz ya did somyhin wrong somewhere. When I removed tape the paint didnt budge it held strong .Thats why practice on small test pieces. I didnt get the hang of it overnight it took a little time but now I can do it with my eyes closed I just miss target a little;)

Ever tried pure PVA (not PVA glue, only PVA)? I saw some for sale at a body shop next to the fibreglass resin. I wonder if it would work better than diluted PVA glue? I may have to pick some up and try. The guy at the store said its used to cure the gel coat fiberglass finish.

Re: Doc's foam work + Closup of maticulous work I put in gloves to show no skin vid

Doc, i have a question for you if you don't mind.

Have you ever tried to hand paint your foam? i ask because when i painted my Iron Patriot, i had issues with pealing my paint off when i removed my masked off areas. Other then spraying paint into a container, do you know of any paints that could be used to paint on by hand? or a trick to do to not have the paint come off when removing tape?

That happens when somthing went wrong with sealin, coating or painting process that it didnt bond. What exactly lifted off just the paint? If ua follow exaclty my steps and labels on products you wont have that problen again. I tape and nothing at all lifts even with crappy tape that was like superglued on lol but try this tape it will give ya sharp lines and the adhesive strength is low so its very easy to pull off. So look at label of tape to make sure it say low adhesion strength. Also let paint dry atleast 24hrs before taping. Goodluck
