Doc Ock Comic Style costume.

Hey guys. I just finished a new costume. Since I have not posted in a while I'll show the whole process on one thread. Please ask me any questions you like.

I originally created this for a Spider-man photo shoot but I ended up putting a lot of time and effort into so I'm adding it to my collection.

To many people have done the Movie version so I stuck with the Comic version.

Here are the pics for you.
These were the perfect glasses to match up to what the Doc used in the comics. Old Man Glasses!! :D

The wig was a modified 60s beatles wig I found on ebay for $12

Working at a Sign shop running the CNC router has it's advantages. I was able to cut the claws from there including the center piece. I was originally going to light up that part but ran out of time before the shoot. I will be going back to this and remaking the tentacles.

The Tentacles are made from 3" backer Rod. Closed cell foam rods. I used Matte Place vinyl for the lines. The paint chips off all the time so I will be working on a better way to make them later.

Just so you have reference. This is the fugue I based most of the design from.

And the finished work! :)

Thanks for looking and make sure to check me out on Facebook.

Did this get lost in the shuffle?

Whatever happend, the thread is back and I love it! Very nice to see a comic book version, especially such a classic one!

Does Ock's hair style match yours by chance or did you get a hair cut just for the costume? (or is it a wig?)

Good to see it made it back into the mix. Actually ApophisV that is a wig. I used a 60s style beatles wig and cut it to that shape. I shave my head so this wig works great for that. I use a special tape to keep it on my head.

Thanks Djon30 :)

Thanks for the info, just realized you said it already in your first post. Guess I was barely awake when I read and replied earlier this morning, next time I will get a coffee before visiting the RPF ;)

that suit is totally legit!
congratz!

I'll might try those foams too on my girlfriend's Iron Spider cosplay :p
I wish we had a CNC router too xD

Thanks guys.

Actually. Although the rougher made it a little easer. Sentra board is a very soft material and can easily be cut with a box knife.

Great work! I also want to know - how'd you get the arms to hold their shape? Those sharp tentacle segment lines really mimic the comic-art look!

About 10 years ago I did a Q&D Doc Ock costume using some 4 plastic corrugated tubes with stiffener/cores of PVC pipes glued in various length segments with 45 degree joints. Cut the claws from cardboard, painted them silver and duct taped them on the ends. Cost only about $25 altogether.

Seeing your perfect job makes me want to re-do it properly next year. Great job - the spidey mask is a excellent touch!

Thanks man. Would still love to see pics of the one you did. :)

In order to get them to bend like that I used thick aluminum sheet metal. I think they were .090 thick. The metal was scrap from my work and were about .75" wide. They bounce around when I walk but seem to be pretty sturdy.

I took about 2 days to do this, at the spur of the moment, for Halloween. I bought about $10 of PVC pipe, some PVC joints and some PVC glue. I glued a pipe with 2 holes at each end for the 4 arms to attach, like a capital H on it's side. I glued 4 arms together, used a few 45 degree joints with some segments to give it a "snaky" shape and glued them into the 4 ends of the H.

I then bought some large silver tubing from a hardware store which cost about $30 bucks. That cost more than I wanted to, but I was in a hurry and it had nice segment rings. The PVC arms were the same length of the silver tubes. I simply slid the tubes over the 4 pvc framed "tentacles".

I then cut out 12 cardboard "claws", cut and glued on some cardboard circles for "rivets", then shot it with rattlecan silver paint. I glue 3 claws into each arm. I cut holes into the back on an old junky work shirt. Done!

I just used some string to hang it on my back around the rear of my neck, and duct tape to keep it in place. That was the weak part - if I had had more time I would have done up a proper rig with some straps over the shoulders. Still, worked fine for one night.
