Divide the Junkyard into categories

I think splitting the JY into prop vs. non prop is a fantastic idea!

I'm not crazy about the prefixes though only because it seems like a pain for both people making the posts as well as the admin having to moderate/watchdog them.

I think the biggest problem with the JY is that since on any given day there are so many items in it that people are constantly having to bump their threads for visibility.

The division into two categories (prop vs. non prop) would dramatically reduce the need for bumping and increase visibility.

This is good for both sellers AND potential buyers. :thumbsup

I agree, tis the reason I started this thread :):thumbsup

:D :lol

It's not that it's too easy, but that the whole point of the RPF is to talk about props. The Junkyard was an additional split-off forum because the main forum was getting too filled with sale threads (a long time ago, but still...). To make a sub-forum of a sub-forum, well, is a bit much. I think banning non-prop sales is a better course of action than splitting yet another sub-forum for a sub-sub-forum so people can sell t-shirts and video games. yes?

I would be down for that.

The problem is that the junkyard is too busy and threads fall onto the second or third page before people even have a chance to see them.
This hurts both the sellers and the potential buyers and makes the JY less effective.

Anything that would slow down the pace of the threads dropping would be a good thing.
Either breaking it down into a secondary category, or making the content props only would help greatly.

It just seems like making two categories would be easier and less work for the admin to police.

Banning non prop sales wouldn't affect me in the slightest personally but being the kind hearted soul that i am i would opt for split catagories of prop/non prop to keep everyone happy.
And this would of course save the staff headaches not having to shutdown threads all the time asking why they cant sell their other junk and the people who will insist on listing their junk regardless.
So really all things considered i think the original idea of two catagories is by far the easiest of options,it would take all of what 2 minutes to create the seperate forums far easier than all the prefixes and stuff you've already done.

I am OK with it the way it is. Splitting into 2 would be better then banning non-prop sales all together, but I don't have that hard of time going through the pages to see things I may have missed so it has never been an issue for me. Even if people feel the need to bump something (which I am not sure is really that helpful) so what? it is not hard, and takes 2 seconds to do with minimal effort.
I guess if it is important to others and a change must be made I would vote for a prop related JY, and a non-related sales area.

I may have said this already, but I think all the JY really needs is a second prefix (Props/Costumes, and Non-Props) if that is possible. A sub-forum might just add clutter.

How can it add clutter by seperating the two catagories ?

Surely having everything all mixed in with eachother but with prefixes is cluttered ? yeah ok you can go to the search page and filter the prefixes but wouldnt it be easier to just click on the forum you want to actually see ?

EG: I want to look at props for sale so do i go click on the props section of the JY taking me directly to what i want ? Or do i go to the search buton, click advanced, then put in the prefix that i want ?
Which is easiest ?

Very cool.
I like it a lot.
I think it will greatly improve the JY's efficiency from a buyer and seller standpoint.

My only criticism is the number of categories. I think some can be consolidated.

I would like to see it reduced down to 4 categories:
FS (FS, FA, WTT, FS/T) I think these should all be in the same place for convenience.
WTB
INT
NP

That is a lot of categories, but we definitely need FA--there isn't much that's more annoying in the JY than clicking on a cool item you want to buy, then finding out it's an auction.

WTT is similar, but I think, if there's going to be any consolidation, it'll come from the WTT and FS/T since we can assume WTT means the item is also for sale. Any thoughts on this?

First I'd like to say thanks for taking the time and I'm sure a lot of effort to improve the JY. Regardless of where it ends up, it's better than what it was.

I get what you are saying about people clicking into threads only to find out it is FA vs. FS.
I think I might have a solution to satisfy everyone (or mostly everyone).

At the end of the day, the JY can be broken down into 4 basic categories.

1. items being offered
2. items being sought after
3. interest threads
4. non-prop related

If we could reduce it into headers such as:

FS (FS, FA, WTT, FS/T) = anything being offered
WTB = anything people are looking to buy
INT = interest threads
NP = non prop related items

Refine it down to the 4 basic categories, but still make people use the prefixes in the FS section. That would be a solve for all the problems I've seen voiced so far.
I think the prefixes were a great idea, and I think using them in this proposed manner maximizes their effectiveness, while still keeping the basic categories separate.

I agree, a thanks is in order for synasp. Thanks for taking the time to helping the forum, and trying out this stuff. I really like the buttons at the top :):thumbsup

Yes i like the new system but why are we still seeing FS threads listed with no prices.
Can you remind people to use the FA prefix on these please ?
