Divide the Junkyard into categories

It would be nice if the junkyard would be devided into sections like:

  • Props
  • Costumes
  • Electronics
  • Everything Else
That way we don't have to weed through all the stuff that we aren't looking for, and people selling items won't have to keep bumping their stuff to the front page as often. :thumbsup

Any function in this board software to allow people to 'flag' entries as the above suggestions? Then you can search for items and choose what flags to search for?

You mean like when you post an item you can flag it as "Prop," or "Costume" etc. And then members can choose to look through only the flags they select... or they can select them all... That would be cool, and would probably make the board less cluttered (instead of just adding new forums for each category), and organized at the same time. :thumbsup

Well this threads been going on for a long time i can't see the system changing anytime soon even though IMO they are good ideas.
I would like to see peoples threads get nuked who put FS in the title when it's an auction too and that includes the PM me with offers stuff.
If it's FS it should have a price listed.
Sticky a thread at the top of the JY stating that titles need to be labeled properly and if not then the listing will be removed.

I agree. I can't stand clicking on a thread that is FS and it is an auction or a "gimme an offer / send me an e-mail for pictures."

Also what annoys me is when someone adds an item for sale then about 5 or 6 members post up saying i wish i could afford that or this :angry

BTW, how many T-shirt and toy threads to we really need to filter through to find the props on a prop forum?

How about setting sale icons? Or maybe a thread prefix will work--where you select "FS" "WTB" etc. instead of typing it in.

I like the idea of a prefix (or icon) that will be uniform for each thread of a particular type, so that you can quickly scan and locate the particular type(s) of threads that you are interested in.

I don't see how that will solve the problem those people that type FS on their titles when it's an auction will just press the FS button instead.
The issue isn't that they can't type it's that they don't type the correct thing.

True... should sales listed as "FS" but are really auctions just be deleted without notice? That's a little drastic in my opinion, but maybe people will eventually understand they shouldn't write in misleading titles?

Well i suppose just messaging the seller and informing them they need to edit their listing or it will be removed would have the same effect.
I'd suggest a warning that continual wrongful listings could result in JY privileges being suspended would be a good a idea also.
I'm completely willing to understand that in most cases people just don't understand the difference between a sale and an auction but as we see from all the times people have to be warned about political threads which i've noticed seems to be mainly long term members who do know the rules that some people just like to keep doing things their way despite the rules.

That's the catch, though. We already PM people for that, edit out annoying sale thread titles like, "$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ LOOK AT MY PROP!!!!!!! $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$" and such. We still only catch what we see, and it's just difficult watching every single thread posted.

I guess if any of you guys see an auction being passed as a sale, the best thing to do is PM the thread owner (hopefully the don't know the rules) or report the post if they do and mod action is needed.

Thats all very well but if we do that we will most likely get an arsey reply like mind your own business it's nothing to do with you you're not a staff member etc which will create tension and it's your job to take the flack :lol
I think at the very least you should sticky a set of guidelines at the top of the JY forum.
I get what you're saying though there is a fair amount of traffic in the JY and it's hard to check everything.

Another idea is it possible to do a script allowing a thread starter to delete their own JY thread once a sale/auction is completed ?
That would help to keep that forum a bit tidier but i'd suggest the deleted threads get moved somewhere that staff can still access them and reinstate them should some flakey seller decide to delete their thread for some other reason.

I agree with this :thumbsup

One reason sales threads shouldn't be deleted after they get a buyer is in case the sale goes south and the buyer isn't obligated to complete it.

If you do make icons to represent types of sales, would there be a script to view just those types of sales.
