So Denver Comic Con is June 13-15th and on the 14th I plan to go as Wolverine. I don't have a ton of cash to drop on nice replicas or the skill (or tools) to make my own metal claws, so today I will show you how to make perfect Wolverine claws from wood. They're perfect for cons and costumes.
Things you need:
-6 paint stirrer dowels OR 6 HY-KO Sign Stakes (found at Wal-Mart for about a dollar a piece and go for 21 in x 53.3 cm. The sign stakes have a sticky side, but it is easy to take off with a knife or blade.)
-Grey/Silver Spray paint (Also found at Wal-mart for about $3.50 a can, but you only should need one)
-A dremel or hand saw ( VERY necessary. I know neither of those are very cheap, but I already had one, and I assume most of you do too.)
-Sander or sand paper (not necessary, but help makes sure the claws are nice and smooth so you don't splinter your hand)
Step 1: Take your sign stake and cut off the tip using a cutting tool from your dremel. Now make a mark from were you cut to make a curve up to the top side of the dowel/stake. I suggest making the mark with a pencil in case you screw up.
This is what it should look like after that.
Step 2: Take your pencil and from your tip move down exactly 12 inches and make a mark. Then at the bottom of the stake make a 1 to 2 inch notch that come off of were you will cut. These little notches make it easy to hold the claws between your fingers. After you make the mark. Cut.
Step 3: Repeat and paint. Seriously, that is. It is so easy, I made them in about an hour.
