Die Cast Lighted 1/350th TOS Enterprise (TOMY crowd funded)

So there’s a lot of discussion here and on several FB groups about the TOMY Enterprise’s balance and the need for the saucer support. So I took a chance and set the model on a flat table and it’s perfectly balanced. So the load on the 2 pins on the stand is straight down with no shear load.

I don’t think the main concern is the ship tipping forward but the strength of the connecting dorsal. Time will tell as I’m not using the saucer support on mine.

You know what is interesting about the parts you circled??? Every single one has those little imperfections near the shuttle bay. I checked people videos and mine. Those little nicks near the rear lights are exactly the same on all of them. I'm guessing it was an imperfection in the dies before pressing. Kinda interesting actually. Viewing it in real life they are so small you have to get your face right there or zoom with a camera.
I noticed, however I chose to say nothing more as a few folks on here were apparently offended. The QC on the dies could have been better but as I have already said if you have nothing in this scale... it scratches the itch. GC

I’d be surprised if anyone tried that.

SECOND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If they do I would suggest a mini suction tool vs. digging into with micro screwdriver as it will gouge the paint in the area. TBH I would leave em alone

singling tomy employees out by name and slandering them professionally in attempt to get them fired is what's a tad offensive. i would imagine they anticipated nitpicks, otherwise they wouldn't have sprung for refunds.

i'd love to get an honest answer out of somebody at Tomy as to whether they consider this project a success or not, and if there's any hope at all for another ship. is anybody willing to take one for the team and drive up to idaho and see if chris@tomy gets loose lips during pillow-talk?

They sprung for refunds as they did not deliver on their promises for those of us that backed this from the beginning. They had a legal obligation to do so and saved money on doing so on by not having to pay for shipping returns and potential lawsuits. That's the business bottom line.

lawsuits?

i'm having too much fun imagining that. would definitely put the Seinfeld finale to shame.

My hunch is that this project was a nightmare for Chris and his team. In the end they probably just ran out of time and money and were instructed to live with the imperfections. For this reason alone I think Tomy would think twice or three times before committing to another ship if ever. I still think it is a wonderful model and quite unique in its way.

my gut concurs. i think we would have heard something by now if a 2nd ship was greenlit.

If they would not refund... yes lawsuits as it was documented that what was promised was not delivered. They refunded which was the right thing to do. However it's was an open and shut legal argument in the backers favor

It's nothing for anyone to get offended about. Looking at them in person and not at a zoomed in picture....the little nicks are barely noticable. One would have to be told about them. I actually think it's interesting and does not bother me at all. I have a lot of little 1/64 diecast and many have little imperfections. Gives them a bit of charm....:)

One of mine was laying in the box. THey are engineered to snap in. Hence a suction tool would be the only safe way to get them out without chipping and damaging paint IMHO

That is incorrect. There is no legal obligation based on what was said in marketing videos. Everyone that purchased an Enterprise agreed to these terms (which I’ve posted before). No open and shut legal argument exists.

Not necessarily. I'm thinking they are waiting for all shipments to be made and dealing with possible exchanges due to damage and malfunctions. Then once all is complete sitting down and discussing future possibilities. Plus Chris and team are busy with the Delorean build and getting that off the ground.

I want to get in touch with Chris and tell him that there were plenty of happy people who love the final product and want more. If anyone can get his email address please post it. The more we make him feel like the project was a success and that we REALLY WANT MORE the better our chances of seeing that come true.

i hope you're right. guess we won't know anything till next summer, when they presumably announce the next project. although that gorndamned DeLorean set a dangerous precedent. funded within hours, quadrupled it's goal. that obviously is going to turn a clear profit, at 1/2 to 1/3 the production cost (i'm guessing) of the enterprise. just doing a Ghostbusters hearse or a Mach 5 (or, Gorn save us, a K.I.T.T. or a General Lee) is going to look mighty tasty come july, for a lot less hassle and lot more cash, i fear.

(but gornammit if the mach 5 came with working retractable buzzsaw blades and an underwater bubble canopy i'd have to buy the gorndamned thing now wouldn't i. oh and don't forget a working bird drone.)
