Diamond Select Enterprise E LED Conversion - Lights Finished

I know this is not really building but it certainly is fun in a weird way. I am converting the crappy grain of wheat bulbs in the Art Asylum/Diamond Select Enterprise E to LEDs.

Blacking out the inside as well to kill light bleeds

Fun, easy and NEW.... cant beat it

The panels were removed with a sewing needle. The ship came apart easy enough and in my opinion AA/Diamond designed this ship to be used with LEDs but went cheap in the end using grain of wheat bulbs. Anyway here is my progress so far.

I never knew that about the grain o weets! :eek

Well looking good so far. I am sure the light leak fix and LEDs will make it look a thousand times better! :)

It seems to so far. The tricky bit is going to be seeing if I can add four more LEDs. The toy had no blue LEDs in the nacelles. I am going to try to add two Blue 3mm LEDs per nacelle.

Nice! :thumbsup

I've been kicking around the idea of doing this myself, what held me back was not wanting to damage the plastic trying to remove the panels. You may also want to use lightsheet in the nacelles as opposed to LED's; I think it would give more even light coverage.

Edit it looks like feek's link provides lightbars which would work just as well.

Video of the ship put back together. I was able to add a total of seven LEDs to the existing light configuration.

Two blue LEDs in each nacelle
Two red LEDs in the impulse engines
One soft white glow LED to the windows

This project was very very very simple. No resistors were needed and the LEDs are damn bright even with adding 7 that weren't supposed to be there.

Any way check out the video I took on my iphone:

Very nice. Even with the led's you added it probably still takes less power than the grain of wheats.

I would love step by step instructions on how you did this! I'd like to try it on not only my e, but the A as well. and maybe even possibly light some windows too

Gret Job. I have the diamond Select Enterprise D, the left nacele´s LEDs died and I´d like to do what you did. I managed to opened the nacele but I´d like to open the saucer section to light it. A guy on the internet said it´s impossible, he tried but he couldn´t. Was it easy to open the saucer? I´m afraid of damaging the piece. It could be great to have the step by step process. Thanks
