Dexter Season 7 and 8

We could basically watch season 1 through season 5 episode 1 (cut it off as soon as dexter is on his boat and "moving on," has the flash back of Rita, closes his eyes and says goodbye. And we'd basically have the same outcome. Not 4 seasons of mediocre and bad writing. They could have saved us a bunch of time. This season started with so much promise. But as soon as Hannah came back the season was done.

Yup. And even then, you could probably skip most of Season 3.

Honestly, I just felt like after Season 4, the writing went off the deep end. I gave it a chance, but it just never really was coherent after that. It seemed to be without a clear sense of direction and just treading water. Not to mention SLOPPY.

I concur. Executive Producers Clyde Phillips and Melissa Rosenberg left the production at the end of season four, and I think that's what really hurt the show. They seemed to have a pretty good idea of what the overall tone of the show should be, and once they left it became more soap opera than drama.

"She's a 2001 Century 2901 center console. I had this custom rail put in, new paint. Has radar, gps, fishfinder, AUTOPILOT, EMERGENCY LIFERAFT..."

So at least they told us what they were gonna do an episode before.

*yawn* They can discuss it until they're blue in the face, but the bottom line is that all of their ideas were poorly executed (no pun intended). To me it's no different from the numerous discussions in various threads here in which someone remarks, "Oh, they explained that in the novel/comic book/video game/bath towel/breakfast cereal."

Honestly, I would have preferred Harrison not be left with Hannah. In fact, now I'm worried for Harrison, because there's nothing keeping Hannah from poisoning him (it's not like anyone in Argentina knows who he is. All Hannah would have to do is slip him something into one of his meals, leave his body in the woods and then go wherever she wants, especially since she thinks Dexter is dead).

I didn't like the finale that much either, but why the hell would Hannah poison Harisson ? That makes no sense, I don't understand what's the hate is all about, she clearly loved Dexter and Harisson, otherwise she wouldn't have shown her face at the hospital when Harisson hurt himself earlier in the season...

Yes, Hannah clearly loved Dexter, enough so that she tried to kill Deb last season. That is not someone I would want to bring up my son. They keep bringing up the fact the Hannah can protect him, but who does he need protecting from? Another thing to remember is that things really started going off the rails with Dexter when Hannah came into his life.

Personally, I found the bath towel riveting.

Agreed. Hannah only poisons people when she feels like her back is in the corner. When she took Harrison with her, she was under the impression that she and Dexter would be raising him (hence the reason why she took care of him after he fell off the treadmill and hurt himself, she clearly was doing it because it was Dexter's son). After a while, there's a good chance that Harrison may become more of a hinderance to her, and she may choose to kill him because she may feel she has no choice (as she has done many times before, which included her attempt to drug Debra and use the crash to try to hide it). Since she believes Dexter is dead, there's nothing keeping her from offing Harrison and leaving Argentina behind.

The only other option for her is risking coming back to the U.S. and dropping off Harrison at his grandmother and grandfather's house and be raised with Aster and Cody, which makes no sense.

All I know is that my blood slides box went from top shelf glass display case to second from the bottom.

Hannah could protect him from his urges to kill like he said in s8e11 which is complete bull****

What a waste of a season. I don't even want to watch the first few seasons again now, that just left such a bad taste in my mouth.

Dexter Writers Weren't Allowed to Kill Dexter -- Vulture
Original article.

Showtime told Dexter writers they couldn't kill Dexter, forcing them to go with only other possible ending | Newswire | The A.V. Club
Little more background on the same article and how Showtime considers Dexter to be their Batman.

That explains some of the creative restriction faced by the writers for the finale. Why didn't Showtime allow Dexter to be dead, are they hoping to revive the character/franchise in some other form/medium in the future?

Did Showtime prevent them from having him get caught or have to go on the run after the cops found out, or some sort of comeuppance for all the things he's done beyond not being able to live with the woman who might end up killing him and/or his son one day?

Whatever the spin-off is I sure hope it doesn't involve Miami Metro, it's impossible to take that department seriously given Dexter got away with everything.

Who knows? Even as it was being announced that season 8 would be the last, there were reports that some of the "higher-ups" at Showtime were still undecided and wanted to put that decision on hold. I think they just wanted to leave their options open.

Just finished watching the finale a few minutes ago. I really hoped
Deb wouldn't die.
The closing scene was entirely unnecessary. The scene with the Coast Guard doing their search should have been the closing scene. It would have been a better cliffhanger.
