Ah okay, that makes more sense. I want to do this one mission but it keeps telling me i need better gear lol. I have a feeling it's not joking. I was going against enemies my own level last night and having a rough time. I'm going back tonight with a buttload of ammo refills. Just wish he'd stop charging so much for rocket launcher reloads.
Which mission are you trying to do?
The Weekly "coin" missions and Nightfall are the toughest, but normally give you decent
loot drops. You sometimes get exotic items from Nightfall... but you have to be at least level 30 to do it...
and have a full fireteam. Good luck doing Nightfall solo, if you die, the mission is done.
I've gotten a few Exotic items from Nightfall and some so-so Legendary items (when compared to my existing gear),
but it's worth it in the end.
Xur is in the Tower today at the Vanguard Mentors, and he sells Exotic armor/weapons and upgrades
that you can purchase with Special Coins and Motes of Light. Well worth checking out!

I'm plucking away at the Hand of Crotta mission on Earth, it's one where yo ufight down into a cave and have a really strong knight chase you around as you pick away at him. I'm high enough that it's listed as normal. I need to get the other factions to start selling me crap but i don't have any commendations so i can't do much with any of the sellers. I finally got a blue orb for a sniper rifle last night so at least i am happy about that. I just need to level up some more.

is that one of the first Dark Below missions? I couldn't do that one on my own at the time where my lvl was at. I had to bring a team down because the knight would just keep spawning off other baddies to come after me and was impossible to do alone. However that was lvl 24 and didn't have anything fancy, nor any Vanguard lvl commendation.
I REALLY wish they'd implement a matchmaking system. I'm kinda going on a hiatus until they make this easier to move forward in the game. I don't have oodles of time to **** away time trying to find groups late at night.

It's hard for me to get a group together because i play after midnight and most folks are kinda busy sleeping or working. They need to make it easier to get in with the other factions too, i've been doing patrol missions for them and the only one who gives me anything is the mechanic. She's been giving me stuff left and right. I have made progress as i'm now fully powered up, have all rare weapons and am slowly getting legendary gear. Nothing amazing yet but i spent most of last night grinding on mars doing bounties and missions.
Anyone else find it odd that humans haven't been in the ruins for centuries yet they still have power? They must have come up with some really good nuke generators lol. They need to hurry up and do something with the MP aspects because the local game stop said they're getting more trade ins every week of people who have gotten bored. Frankly they shoulda asked the blizzard branch of activision for help planning an MMO since they've got warcraft going. On a side note is it me or is finding Xur a pain in the neck? They need to just give him a stall to work out of lol.

In order to level up your different factions, you need to buy or find a piece of class "armor" for that faction. Each faction has them, including Eris.
If you look at your class armor (hood, armband... um... quarterback towel/sash...) it will have a faction emblem in the description.
You can buy the faction items with glimmer, or you can just level up the Vanguard faction level. My Vanguard level
is the highest. Some people I know run a different faction for each character. My hunter's Vanguard level is like 13
I think, and his Dead Orbit level is almost 8. I also hit level 3 with the other two factions. Another friend has been
running just Vanguard and is like level 23.
You get the chance to get random faction gear from postmaster packages as well if you run a faction armor compared to a generic Vanguard model.
Do a google search for "Destiny LFG." It stands for "Looking For Group" and is an okay way to find pick-up groups
of people looking to do strikes and raids.
Now, having said that, your actual mileage may vary. You can get a group of Level 32's looking for other elitists,
or you can get a group of foul mouth 12 year olds acting like elitists or you can get a decent group of raid newbies
and veterans. Again, your mileage may vary, but it's an option.
Regarding factions again... I leveled up my Cryptarch rank and got Shards and energy... leveled up Dead Orbit and got
a legendary Fusion rifle. :confused
Also, when you open a level reward from the postmaster, you gain XP. Sooo... you could just NOT
open your rewards from the faction or cryptarch until you have a bunch of them... and then basically
you'd level said faction up again... by leveling them up. Granted you need a few of them to seed
the process,but you get a bonus for nothing.
Plus, each time you cash in bounties you ALSO level up your faction level, and you do it in
amounts of 50 or 100 points... which is faster than the 10/30 or 12/32 you get from doing patrol
missions (you get 12 or 32 after completing a nightfall strike instead of 10/30 normally). You get
30 points for an "assassination" mission (Go here and kill XXX who's doing bad things...)
compared to 10 for a regular patrol mission.
Anyway, lots of potential for leveling up a faction!

I grab every engram i can to level up the Cryptarchs. It's the fastest one to level up. I think i either ran into a dbag last night or just a 12 year old. He wasn't even on the radar when i shot some vandals and then he started shooting at me as if they're not going to respawn. So far i've met nothing but good people on the game, it helps that you really can't go around killing other players easily lol. I think the game's lost it's shine to the COD crowd and they've moved on alot or they just stay in the crucible. I keep getting random requests to join raids, my complaint is that it's such a crap system to alert you. I didn't know about one request for 3 hours until i checked my battery level.
I hate to say this but the first mission in the dark below dlc is whooping me, i ace my way into the cave with the fist of crota but he beats the hell out of me before i can take him down totally. i'm level 30 and still have trouble with him. I'm going to try hitting him with the charged gun power then run like hell and wait on the far side as he and the waves of backup rush in. I finally got an exotic last weekend only for it to be for another class lol. I'm just doing missions now for rep as i hit my 100 vanguard point limit last week. Plus i needs lots of shards to finish upgrading my legendary armor. They should really let us trade with other folks, i'd glady give some of the stuff i get and can't use to noobs. I also wish they'd make a system for when you're doing a public event vs a badguy you're having trouble with you could alert others in the area so they could come get in on it. and for the love god bungie bring back letting us sell off crafting items, even if there's a weekly limit.

You sometimes get those types of people. If they have a specific bounty (Kill 10 Majors or Ultras) people get a bit testy
if the spawn point in that area gets nerfed because someone either shoots the guy you were trying to kill or
even worse, someone stays in the area and keeps the enemy from respawning. I saw a few guys do that in the Steppes
on Earth (the area you spawn into when doing earth patrols). They sat in the bottom area of the center building and kept the
dregs and vandals from respawning. Irritating.

lol I never get that testy about the bounties, i just keep doing missions. Had someone point to me for some reason last night on earth but couldn't figure out what was going on. They need to find a way to make communication easier like just having premade phrases to go with stuff. Last night i must have been in the zone, i hit public missions back to back and got 2 crota missions done. The before i went to bed my last visit to the cryptarch got me a legendary missile launcher. How i just need a legendary scout rifle. Sad thing is sunday, i think, i helped take out crota's soul and it didn't count so now i have to do it alone again lol
Lol, yeah, the pointing thing is kind of like playing charades. It's hard to get someone's attention, then point to an object
or destination before they flitter off like a moth in search of a new light (level). Nice when the Cryptarch actually
gives you something useful. I now pretty much only keep Rocket Launchers with homing, mirv (I forget what it's
really called) or secondary area explosions. Crota's soul is a pain, even with a full fireteam.

I've never seen a homing missile. I figured he was pointing to tell me to get lost lol. The best part is when people appreciate you helping with group events, you can tell as they either wave/bow or dance at you lol. Ran into someone, who did the Crota soul mission with me, who recruited me by punching me in the forehead and sending an invitation lol.
On PSN i'm cobaltcrimson1. I'm open for strikes and raids since i've only done one raid and need to do all the lower level ones (especially to upgrade a exotic weapon at once i get more energy for it). Could also use some help killing Crota's soul in the normal mission.

I am putting this one back in discussion because I need help and I am at my wits end trying to understand why this is so hard to do.
In a nutshell, I am extremely busy. I don't have time for hours a day with games. My time I play is only a window of a couple hours midnight-2-3am if I'm lucky, and that's if I'm not dead tired after putting the kids to bed and am not working on other projects....
I DON'T have time to do all this fireteam searching, buT i need to in order to get further into the missions for story mode. The problem is I can't ever get anyone to invite me or me invite them through Xbox One. I've read around online, did the adjustments in my profile to be open for fireteams... I can receive any notifications or anything!!!
Does anyone else who plays still for XB One have ANY tips on how the heck I can join up on fireteams that aren't with friends? I just want to play! I have been at this for days trying to connect with anyone and there is just no way i can seem to bridge the connection between players for getting on these group teams and it's driving me nuts! So much wasted time and I'm seriously thinking maybe it's time to just stop and not go for this expansion coming soon because it's not contributing anything great to me real life and is just pissing away time I could spend doing something more productive.

I'm with you! I only play intermittently, and don't have any gaming friends in real life. Despite that, I've tried recruiting my nephew once. I've messaged people through sites, even found one dedicated to forming fire teams. With the interface (not even sure if the problem is Destiny's or X-Box One's) being what it is I was never able to land on a team with any of them. It was hours of tedious wasted time trying to get something set up. I have bounties which I can't complete due to being a solo player. It's such a waste of functionality.

That's what i've been trying to use, but it's terrible! I've had a few connects with people, but the invites never come through. I have NO idea why I cannot join these fireteams.
